My afternoon with a pair of Jugs

First, I have to say, "Thank you!" to Melvin. Even though he will never see this post, without him most of the following not have happened.

Every year my city has a Freedom Festival. It used to be tied to Thunder on the Ohio (Unlimited hydroplane races) then they added an air show. We had the Blue Angels 3 years running. The Snowbirds, Viper West, Even had a Stealth Bomber fly-by one year.
Then it all went downhill. No races, minor airshows. 3 days instead of 10.

But this year we had the two P-47's from the Tennessee Museum of Aviation.

So, I went to the river front where they were going to be performing and this is the best shot i could get:

    Fabulous, isn't it?

But I did get to see the "D-Day reenactment" including the LST-325. They built 167 of them just out of frame to the left.

So, I went to the airport and found this just inside the fence:

But I hate taking pictures through a fence:

Then the owner of this little bug smasher poked his head out and asked if we would like a closer look.
I was literally speechless. Literally. Couldn't even grunt. May have squealed. Pretty sure i squealed.

And then, along with a nasty sun burn, I got these:

    ]

Just a few to showing off the Tiger killers:

    Couple of booty shots:

    Start-up:

The blue-green building in the background has this out in front:

    Where they belong:

Second best day at an airport in my life.

Best day was when I got to do this:

So thank you, Melvin for letting me inside the wire.

    Very cool
You're so lucky there, there're so few of those in Australia where I am.

Awesome shots, I'm very jealous. Hopefully you got some video/audio of those big P&W engines rumbling too for your warbird porn collection.

And congrats to Tully on Moderator of the Quarter.

I did. I tried to post it but forum does not like photobucket videos. Got start up and taxi for both. Taxi video also includes aero demo team taxiing in the background like a bunch of little ducklings behind a pair predators.

This is the second time I have gotten to be alone with a Jug or two. I have been very fortunate.

A few years ago, I went to the Air Force Museum to see the bubble top. When I got there, they were rolling it out the hanger door. This turned out to be a very good thing because it led to this:

This is why they had hauled out the Jug, Lightning and A-36:

When I figure out how to get the video uploaded, I will post it here. It is a little shaky, but that was due to adrenaline.

    *** Just realized, 300th post!!!***
    Only took me 10 years.
