What makes a Good Forum Moderator?
Hi all,
Over the last few weeks, I've noticed an increase in the feedback towards the Moderators. And I must say, it's not too good. So I was thinking of what we could do to improve this and make the interaction between the moderator and the user a better experience. I thought, hey! why don't we come up with a List of Moderator Guidelines that we the community expect out of them. It would all be constructive feedback, but with an emphasis on making the experience a better one and not criticizing what they've done wrong, but more on how they can do it better.
1. Posting Updates on issues regarding bugs and glitches and when they will be fixed.
2. Actively posting in Top Thread to help answer pending questions that need a Moderator to answer.

Moderators are (mostly) volunteers (including me), not Ubisoft staff. For the update suggestions, we would if we could but often we find out the same way you do when developers or PR staff post on facebook or a game site, when the patch notes are released with a new patch or when an expansion / game is announced on the news sites. The same thing goes for support questions, often the only means we have to get information from support is to submit a support ticket ourselves.
Even some of the senior forum staff who are employees sometimes are not permitted to release information even when they have it until an official press release goes out. This often means that half the community has seen the news before the forum staff get the go-ahead to post it on the forums, especially when the press release is made from one time zone and the forum staff are working in another.
Rest assured, when we do have information we have permission to release, it's posted at the earliest opportunity.

Awesome response. I guess what I was referring to was the RedLynx Moderators, the ones who work in tandem with Ubisoft. I am aware that certain info is confidential, but at the same time, not saying anything at all, can sometimes be worse than posting a simple response as, "we don't know at this time" or "we should know something by next week." Its more of a lack of connection and communication between the people on the forums, and the RedLynx Moderators/Community Developers. While Live Streams help establish a connection amongst players, it alone is not enough to support the community.
A moderator by definition is: an arbitrator or mediator. And a Mediator is: a person who attempts to make people involved in a conflict come to an agreement; a go-between.
While this doesn't exactly describe what a Moderator on the Forums is, it does show that they act as a medium sometimes. Such as answering questions and the like.

Personally (and not speaking on behalf of Ubisoft, though they may agree also) I agree. I believe the volunteer situation also applies to the RedLynx forum group moderator as well. The community developers, community managers and forum managers are all Ubi staff, but as far as I understand it, only the chaps that came over from the old RedLynx forums have direct contact with the development team. If I'm right (remembering that I'm a volunteer and not privy to internal Ubi communications) those guys will only be able to release information at certain times.
You'll also find that at times when other things are going on (e.g. E3), they're extremely busy and don't actually have much time to get on the forums.
I fully empathise with your suggestions, there have been long running games I've been part of where developer feedback was good initially but slowly dropped off and it really leaves the community feeling neglected and left out.
