    Are bike upgrades functional or totally cosmetic?

    I've been playing a lot of Trials Frontier on my phone, and have spent way too much money on bike upgrades to get better performance.

    I also just started playing Trals Fusion on Xbox and I'm wondering if the available bike upgrades make any difference to performance or if they're totally cosmetic?

    They are just cosmetic for Fusion. Same as it was for Trials Evolution but with a little less customization options regarding colors.

    Ok, that's actually pretty cool. Having to upgrade your bikes to complete missions and such is the worst part of Trials Frontier. Kinda glad it's not required in Fusion.

    For me the 'level playing field' of identical bikes for all riders is the cornerstone of what makes Trials special. That and the simplicity of lean & gas.

    I know I am going to get heckled for saying this, but I reckon an upgrading system would be cool as part of an additional mode. For example they could have as standard Arcade mode that is your traditional Trials speedrun mode with global leader-boards as we have now, but they could also have some kind of story mode like Trials Frontiers where you have to acquire new gear and upgrade bikes et al. If Trials were to end up being a full price retail title in the future future, then additional modes like that would be very welcome...from me anyway.

    it would be an interesting mode D2, but it wouldn't be separate, even if we were promised that it would be...that's how the FMX thing went....so please, don't give them ideas....still not sure why they changed how levels were listed, I much preferred it when trials was separate to everything else in Evo / HD

    guess I've got too old and now my idea of what trials is doesn't tie up with what red lynx / ubisoft want it to be...well, if the DLC doesn't improve my opinion of the game and doom 4 sucks I'm done with games entirely, not spending money on things I don't enjoy just to be mocked by large corporations and their fans [not aimed at RL, that is aimed at Bethesda / gearbox / MS]

    Actually they are not entirely cosmetic and there are disadvantages to using some body kits over others.

    The truth about the body kits is this:

    There is no weight to the body kits so a bulky body kit is not heavier than a lightweight one. Therefore you will not be able to ride faster or jump further or drop more quickly by using one body kit over another.

    The reason they are not entirely cosmetic though and can affect your bike is that they are different sizes and shapes and this can affect your ability to do certain things. As an example, look at the body kits for the Roach. Two of the body kits (I think it's the 3rd and 5th ones down in the list) have a bulky base-plate beneath the engine. These give considerably less ground clearance than the others. Don't think this will make much difference? Try doing the Top Roach Challenge on the Extreme track Rock of Rages with one of these two body kits on. It's a tough enough challenge as it is, with either of these two body kits on your bike it is nigh on impossible to get up some of the toughest sections.

    Pay very careful attention to the body kits before putting one on your bike - they are NOT just cosmetic and do make a difference.

    Are we looking at the same thing? None of the body kits I'm seeing for the roach have different size baseplates, just slightly different fenders. The only body kit with a different baseplate is upgrade #4 for the viper, which is so negligible, it shouldn't be mentioned. It's not closer to the ground or anything.

    So I'm going to say yes, it's all cosmetic.

    The Uplay "Hue" body kit does have a plate under the engine for the roach which indeed lowers the clearance:



    The rest of the kits do not have that extra engine casing/plating.
