I'm at something like level 21, but there are still a few things I don't get.
For one, what's the point of leveling anyway? Do we get any kind of bonus in terms of speed or other factors? Or does it control mission progression?
And for the life of me I can't figure out the proper technique for landing on a slope surface and not sliding backwards. I feel like the proper way should be to land flat, and then give a bit of forward lean, but when I land flat my back tire always bounces off the ground. Frog Village particularly gives me nightmares because I just can't make those jumps consistently.
And when do you get the Mantis? I'm about 5 parts short of completing the blueprint, but I don't know how to get the rest of them. I'm at the Butch Tree Houses mission and I can't beat him with my Jackal, so was hoping I could get the Mantis and try that instead.
Should I bother trying to upgrade all three bikes per tier, or just pick one? I'm thinking the balance bike for each tier would be the way to go?
Are the progress bars for speed, acceleration, grip, etc specific to that bike, or are the overall levels consistent across bikes? In other words, if the Tango and the Bronco have the same length of speed bar, will they have the same speed? Or is the Bronco still faster at the same level?
Thanks
ps I love this game, but the fact that it takes so much real money to progress really sucks.
Allegedley levelling up rewards you with bigger coin bonuses for passing checkpoints but they offer so little that it isn't worth doing it for this alone. You do get coins and gems as rewards for levelling up but really it just shows how much you've played the game at a glance.
The proper technique for landing (on any surface) is always back tire first (unless you're setting up for a quick ollie). Grip and acceleration are important stats for steep slopes.
The little girl who wants candy gives the Mantis blueprints out. She will probably reappear after you beat Butch which means the level you're stuck on can be beaten on the Jackal. My Jackal is only 3/3/3/3 on upgrades so it is clearly do-able without many upgrades.
Not sure about you stats question. Although I can say they are irrelevant between different tiers of bikes (e.g. Tango and Mantis comparisons). I would say they are bogus because I can overshoot jumps on my 1/1/1/1 Bronco that I hit at full speed on my 3/5/6/5 Tango. Who knows?
I forgot to mention the best benefit of levelling up. It refills your god damn fuel tank!
