Just about! But what you meant to say is that the gap between the top riders and "the rest" will be even bigger now as a time-limited tournament favours ability rather than persistence!Originally Posted by shakeyclaret Go to original post
Unfortunately, I'm the same as you. I used to get quite highly ranked in the tournaments (in the top 100 on a few) but only because I used to keep playing and playing until I eventually got it right. I don't think it means that time-limited tournaments are a bad thing or worse than before ... just worse for me!
To be honest I think that there shouldn't be a timer under 48 hours, some are only like 14 hours long, meaning if you go to sleep and wake up to go to work or college then you won't get to compete on that, I know it's not a big deal but I would like to play every one of them to get as much multiplayer xp as possible xD Also there are only 30 tournament combinations so I have no idea if they will be repeated after the first month or how ever long it takes to cycle through the 30 different tournaments. Wish they made like 500, wouldn't have taken any more effort really, takes what, 5-10 seconds to put together some tracks.
Also I don't like how there are only 3 at a time, played for like 20 minutes and now back to stage one where I have nothing to play.
I think overall it's a good idea but think the old style of tournaments should be back which give global score, I loved them. (with replays)!
Seriously Redlynx? I think you have now managed to kill completely killed every good feature that there could have been in this game, what motivation is there to play tournaments for xp? I dont see how this is any different from just playing 3 different tracks in a row. The old tournaments were so much better, they actually had a competitive aspect they actually meant something, but after one month you decide to give us this
Speaking for the masses. Original tournaments were better to me. There is nothing you can buy with XP points, once you level up to 100 or so. There are a small number of items you can upgrade to.Originally Posted by Gangly_ Go to original post
I played SSX, which had the same style of tournaments...nothing new. It has no allure for me.
The new Tourneys are arguably more competitive than the old format.
that said, the new format completely ignores the big draw of gaming - 'instant gratification'.
Lets say you are not great at trials (like me), you play a track, get gold. Yay! so you play some more for platinum. you get it. Yay!
now say you are an advanced trials player (I won't name names, you know who you are you smug gits) You play a track, get platinum, Yay!, you play some more, get top 10, Yay! you play some more, you get number 1, Yay!
now, in the new tourneys, you are a bit bad (me) you play some, you get a high score (yay!) you see it demolished by riders you know are better than you and you have no hope of beating. You (the lesser player (me)) stops playing as the top rider will always win. There is no gratification, no reward mechanism. only a demoralising, crushing spectacle as any time you set slowly drops down the leaderboard. You don't even had a platinum medal to show that you 'did it'
For the elite players. Tourney pops up. they set a fast time, wait to see if one of the other elite can beat it, go back, beat them - they have a blast. and at the end of it, they have a number 1 ranking on a tourney. just like they do on the single player.
I'm not saying 'it's not fair' there will always be (and has to be) the fast and the slow but the new tourneys exclude the slower players from any instant gratification. and without that, why would they bother?
Sorry to rant. I've defended RL left right and centre over some of the crap they have been taking and I appreciate all the work that's gone into it, I like the new tourneys but given the comments so far felt some constructive input (for both forum readers and RL) would be of benefit.
One thing I hope RL take on board from all the feedback is - if it ain't broke. don't fix it![]()
Valid point and well put and I for one agree with you in that a Global Leaderboard ranking and a platinum medal were more of an incentive for me to improve than these rewards will probably be. The question is though, are we in the minority? In HD and Evo tournaments meant a lot more to the hardcore gamers than the casual fans, you can see that from the number of people on the leaderboards for each of the individual tournaments compared to individual tracks. For casual gamers who had little hope of getting anything but a bronze or silver medal on the old tournaments then maybe a stylish new helmet for their rider for finishing in the top 50% on a given tournament is more of an incentive to play it? I don't know but I'm sure that the statistics will give us an idea over the coming months.Originally Posted by WonkyJon Go to original post
As someone mentioned earlier, this new tournament is a great idea but it should be in addition rather than at the expense of the old style of tournaments. There is definitely room for both in the game in my opinion.
Quick question for RedLynx, have you got the ability or are you considering using user-created tracks in any future tournaments?
i like this change for tourneys didn't like them alot in previous game, i just played them because i had too to get more points
in evo all i did in evo was go for a medal or reduce my faults and if i was feeling really competitive i would try to beat a friend but after i stopped playing them i was always glad i didn't have to play it again for a long time or i was frustrated and didn't want to continue playing it
now you don't have to play them, you can still set personal goals(getting into to 10%,20%, top 100 etc) besides for redlynx its easier now to change the tourneys so we can suggest changes to make them better.for example if you want old version back? just tell redlynx you want some tourneys without time limit, want bigger/harde/long timelimit tourneys it can be arranged) even something to the wr thread could be made for who wins most of these tourneys
i don't know if i'll play the tourneys more know, first i would need to play the game more in general, but i sure like it more now
I really like them, I came 35th in my first one, and won 1000 XP points. Not sure what to do with them they need to give us stuff to spend it on. In the IGN feature they said that prizes would include XP, costumes, bike parts etc, so fingers crossed
"Each tournament will run for a limited time. Alongside the prestige, those who place on the leaderboards will win rider gear, bike parts, in-game cash and experience points."
These new tournaments are a neat new implementation, however, before even getting my first rewards from them, I'm done with them. They're totally pointless.
Pros:
-competition favors skill over persistence, since there is little time to compete.
-rewards
Cons:
-xp is horrible motivation. A player can get a couple thousand xp in minutes if they really wanted it. At least up the prize by 10x
-no money!?
-there should be two tournament modes. One classic mode, with classic all time leaderboards, and one random one like we just got. Why can't we have the best of both worlds?
-this new tournament mode desperately needs real rewards. Xp is so useless on its current form. How about you add special rider gear and bike parts that only those who place in certain tiers in these competitions can have the right to purchase.
-new stuff works on many levels. Players would need to
A. Have won the right to buy it
B. be at the right level to buy it
C. Have enough money to buy it
So if tournaments offered lots of money, xp, and new gear and stuff, it might be somewhat worthwhile. Also, give us our old standard tourneys.
Edit: I'm also noticing the game doesn't restrict you from selecting bikes that can't possibly finish the extreme tournaments (Baggie). Seems obvious enough, but a fail safe should've been implimented. Also, with this in mind, does this mean we won't get any bike specific tournaments?
Edit2: nevermind. You select your bike at the start of each track now, instead of just one for all.![]()
