Rant: I'm stuck, and grinding isn't fun

I seem to be stuck. I've got two missions. One is the final showdown with Butch, and my Jackal isn't fast enough to keep up. The other is an ANBA race on Mud Cakes where my Jackal isn't powerful enough to clear one of the gaps. I have gold medals on most of the tracks already but no option to unlock platinum tracks, and I don't have all of the blueprint parts for the Mantis.

It's been like this for a few days now, and my play has dwindled down to just trying the slot machine every once in awhile. I don't think paying $10 for more gems and another $10 for coins is reasonable for the amount you get, much less the $99.99 they're asked for the biggest upgrade packs. (As if making it a penny less than $100 makes it seem like a better value!)

Am I stuck grinding until I accumulate enough coins and gems to upgrade the Jackal? I'm not sure I want to play anymore if this is how I'm expected to play the game. This is frustrating, not addictive.

I wish there had been some kind of trial version instead, and then you buy the full version without the ads and fuel/gem/coin/time restrictions. Would have forked over $15-20 (over twice as much as the average mobile game cost) for a full version, like the Xbox Trials games were. Now I'm not sure I want to pay anything in this app at all.

What's your Jackal at? Mine is 3/4/4/4 and was enough to get past Butch. You might think about viewing other people's runs to see if they have some other approach that might work better for you.

It seems weird to me that you're grinding for coins and gems at that stage in the game; if anything, I'd expect that you'd be running through specific tracks to get materials for bike upgrades. Even though it won't give you the Platinum medals yet, a good enough time right now will be retroactively changed from Gold to Platinum once you get to that point.

What level is your Jackal? A level 1 Mantis is as good as a level 4 Jackal. . . you NEED the Mantis.
Also, check the ghosts on the leaderboards; dont go for the really good ones but find one that barely qualifies for the Gold, and see what they do. You would be surprised what your bike can do if you lean/jump at the right time.

I XX'ed out the word Jackal, because the above statement will apply constantly throughout the game to virtually everything you encounter. I assure you this is the first of many grinds if you continue, and they get oh so much worse. Do NOT consider buying gems/coins... it could take many HUNDREDS of dollars to even make a dent in what you will need, depending on what you want out of the game.

    We all want this....

My Jackal is at 6/5/6/6 right now, so maybe it's something I'm doing. I'm trying to follow Butch's line on Tree Houses but he just blows by me once you get past the loop. I'll take a look at some of the ghosts on the leaderboards and see if that helps.

I think I have plenty of parts right now as I spent maybe a week before this playing a ton of tracks. I seem to be limited by coins rather than parts for bike upgrades at this point.

    Thanks!

I just ran through it on my Jackal, here's some of my general strategy for it:

At the start, roll forward a little bit so you're centered over the gap that opens up, then drop down and gun it towards the jump to the loop (land with your back wheel first in most every case).

Don't take the loop, slam on the brakes so you drop off the jump onto the next downslope instead. Get enough speed to clear the jump, but land low so you can go fast enough to make it up the steep climb easily.

Try to wheelie into a jump so you can skip the last platform before the big downhill portion.

Don't get big air over the hill just before the launcher, you want to land as far back on it as you can and start accelerating so your speed in the air is as high as it can be.

Lean forward juts before you cross the finish line. You don't have to land past it, you just have to get to it with your head or something. A lot of times, I end up with my bike facing straight down when I finish a level.

With your Jackal at 6/5/6/6 you should be able to breeze through the track.

There is still a long way to go yet and many more grinds to come! The new courses get harder and you are forced to upgrade another new bike.

Buckle in for the long haul or jump off now before you invest too much time is my advice.

You can't get the mantis until you cleared this mission against Butch ... the little girl only comes back afterwards ...

I spent the best part of a week grinding parts for the collection mission Static Attack (three level 5 parts) because the game hides new missions behind each one of these bastard quests. Imagine my disappointment when I finished that mission only to be given a single mission grinding for three more level 5 parts! For the best part of the last two weeks I have only had ANBA and that purple haired, nose piercing bint for company.

I only need three more level 2 parts to complete the mission and so far today out of nearly 20 spins I have picked up a grand total of zero parts!

I want to punch this game in the face but I will continue to play because it has a piece of my soul that cannot be retrieved until I complete the god damn story.

Thanks guys! I watched some runs from people ranked higher than me and managed to beat Butch with the Jackal, and unlocked a whole slew of new missions as a result.
