    Our Base of Operations

So, after going back and watching the E3 2014 Gameplay Trailer for The Division, I noticed a couple things regarding our Base of Operations.

After the squad unlocks the base, a sort of splash screen appeared with a few different categories. Those being-

    Mid Town South
    Base of Operations

    • Supply Line: Connected/ Not connected
    • Power Level: 3.8
    • Personnel: 2
    • Travel Connections:
    1. -Mid Town North
    2. -Dark Zone Low

    • Security Level: 3.8
    • Morale: 2.5
    • Contamination: 4.0
    • Progression Level: 1.0

    • TradeStation: Not Operational
    • Medical: Not Operational
    • Armory: Operational

With that, there's a ton of conclusions which can be drawn about our Base(s) of Operations. (Which I will let you, the reader, infer for yourselves).

Bottom line here is, the gameplay footage was stunning. I loved when Ryan (Nick?) was near the subway entrance and shot the paint can, which then exploded all over the bus. The fact that he was taking damage through the bus-stop was awesome too- it's great knowing we'll be able to penetrate certain forms of cover, and take damage through them as well. And finally, these subtle details which I've pointed out above have left me intrigued and wondering what other purposes our Base of Operations will serve and how we'll be able to interact with them, and other players.

Overall, keep up the great work Massive Entertainment et al! I can't explain in words how amped I am for this game!!!

    too

I really hope we can fortify bases by ourselves.

Also the possibility to turn random houses/arpartments into smaller safe-zones by barricading them (of course unprofessionally) with wooden planks, drawers, locks and chains, etc. would be really really awesome.

Nice. I was wondering if MarcoStyle had done a new episode regarding this. He does a really good job breaking things down & putting the big picture together. So, Ty for that.

Agreed about the fortifications though. If I'm being overwhelmed by a faction and need time to regroup with my squad, barricading/fortifying a nearby store or apartment would be ideal for exactly that.

Yep, good summary of the current information that has been confirmed by the producers, gamedirectors and trailers at some point. But there is also a good part speculation in it, but i've come to the same conclusion.

But beyond that, I don't think The Division will let you barricade yourself in any random buildings. So far we have only seen players using the stuff laying around for cover, so I don't think, we can fortify any random house in the city. Maybe as part of a mission and maybe they let us move furnitures around to stop the mobs but not as default feature.

It would be cool though, but then you also need to have hammer, nails, wood and stuff and I don't think that The Division will have a lot of room for such sandbox-mechanics...

    my 5 cents^^

I agree, I don't see such a barricade or fortification feature being too widespread if it's even implemented at all. In the 2013 E3 gameplay preview, we did see Bronson walking out of a corner store though, which, in theory could be barricaded. Even if only by having to push some racks up near the windows and entrance as a temporary measure. Other than that though, it's pretty apparent that exploring every apartment building and store on the streets is out of the question. Which, makes this whole barricading idea significantly less important/likely.

With The Division's delay I'd imagine Massive Entertainment has given themselves quite a bit of time to implement some new features and polish up some of the things we've already seen. While I don't think this is something that should necessarily be included in the game, it would be pretty neat.

Yeah, there are already 2-3 factions.

In the first gameplay there was somewhere a hint to a russian mafia.
In the 2nd gameplay we have the other guys, and additionally we got the "Cleaners" with their flamethrowers.

But that's right, barricading with hammer/nails would be too sandboxxy
Maybe the DEVs figure out something easier to code, but which gets the job done, too, somehow (picking up and moving furniture, like mentioned)
