Interesting article - the future of fear in video games

For anyone interested in such things, there's an interesting article on the BBC website about how horror is evolving in video games and how they expect it to progress as virtual reality becomes available in the future. Scary stuff!

Here's a link to the article:

I think the popularity of fear inducing video games might stem from the everyday low risk lives we lead.

It's been said that one can not know true happiness, without having experienced sadness by contrast.

We can't truly define food as tasting "good" without having tasted something "bad".

The sensation of fear producing media is something I haven't been able to get caught up in.

Personally, I'm not interested in the chainsaw massacres, the kruegers, or the final destinations of the world.

But I like to sit back and analyze things, and this is partially the understanding I have developed.

It would be interesting to get feedback from people who partake in death defying "extreme sports" and whether they have an interest in "fear media" and to what extent.

We used to have to fight for our survival, for thousands of years humans lived shorter and more dangerous lives.

Now we're on our way to a less sensational version of Pixar's Wall-E with seemingly little to no concern of dying on a daily basis. The most dangerous thing a lot of people in modern civilization do, is get in the car and drive to (and from) work.

I think seeking out fear-media comes from a subconscience effort to stress ones-self to balance out the lack of real world risk of death.

Not sure if it's worth mentioning that I did not read the article, just skimmed; this was intriguing, as this is something I was just discussing with some family members last night.

    Nevertheless, thanks for sharing Melchett.
