Bike upgrades: items and coins, or more coins?
Generally, which is better? Waiting to do upgrades until you've collected the associated parts, or just paying a whole bunch more coins right away? It seems like coins is the better option, since you're getting them no matter what (yay slots) and the parts are always being needed for some random fetch quest (boo A Feminine Touch).

dont waste coins. eventually upgrades costs so much you will wish you didnt waste them when you could have saved them and got the parts instead.

Yeah, you dont get coins by slots fast enough once you get to the higher upgrades. ANBA is a good source for coins though for a while (until you are so high that you cant easily beat them).
One thing to look forward to though that I discovered.... Slot machine levels currently end at level 30. Once you reach level 30, you no longer get entries to increase your slots levels... so you usually get more money entries instead!

I needed upgrades in order to complete Quagmire. I didn't have the patience to grind the parts but I had a fat pile of coins. I used over 300k coins and still needed more upgrades but without ANBA I only had the slot machine for easy coins. It has reached the point where the upgrades are too expensive for coins alone. Even a single part can reduce the cost greatly.
My advice, if you have a decent amount of coins and ANBA is a viable option then for anything below a level 4 upgrade just use coins. Level 5-7 get the most advanced level part required and pay the rest. Level 8-10 upgrades, get all the parts!

i had nearly a million coins when i finally beat quagmire and finished the rest of the game. It only took me a few days to blow through all of it when i started upgrading bikes and i did it with the required parts. now im coin starved all the time and my bezerker is only 5/5/5/5. its going to take forever to upgrade it further not to mention getting the bronco and other lower bikes up to competitive levels. i would really stick to grinding parts because coins dont come easy and parts do comparably.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm currently working on the level 3 Riptide upgrades (it's 4/5/5/5 that's required for plot, right?), so still haven't seen any super expensive ones I guess. I'm basically just trying to stockpile parts, since I haven't been able to make it through either Lumber Yard or Quagmire.
Guessing it might not be the best way to be going about it, but I've been setting the best times I can (without upgrading those bikes) while grinding the level 2 maps for their items; sounds like being really preoccupied with ANBA and only improving your runs is the better option, but I've got the Berserker unlocked (0/0/0/0) so I don't really need to touch the bot ever again.
Is there a list of what's required for each bike upgrade? I'm thinking that might be a useful data set to have gathered; I could make a thread and fill things in as I (and others) come to them, assuming the required parts aren't randomized.

I wouldn't worry about your times on the Tier 2 tracks. I did the same, got most of them platinum and worried about it but they never come up against ANBA. As you unlock new courses with the slot machine they take up the bulk of the ANBA challenges (especially if you intentionally keep it that way!).
