How do you control a Sphere?

I'm trying to figure out how you can control a sphere or any other object instead of the Rider/Bike.

Basically, I want to create something similar to the S.P.E.R.E. minigame in Trials Evolution:

It's a tutorial for Trials Evolution. Same rules applies for Fusion, except he mentions light and pro editor. In Fusion light editor has been removed.

I think you can just use an area effector or directional force that is attached to the sphere and tether the forces that apply to the object to the different analog directions.

I've already watched all those, but thanks anyway.

Thanks, I didn't think to use force, but then there's another problem.

I made my Moving Ball using the Directional Force Tool with 8 different directions, but whenever I move the ball in-game, there's too much power in the movement & it doesn't stop properly. Basically, whenever I tap forward, it'll move forward for about 8+ seconds no matter how long I hold back for. Changing the force doesn't fix it.

Here's an example; every time I move from the starting position, I only tapped the stick for a split second:

From the video it seems the force is still turned on even when you change directional force. For example. You press left: the directional force to the left will activate and then you press right, the directional force to the right will activate, but the one to the left will still be on. So you got 2 forces opposite to eachother. You have to make it so all the other forces turn off when you turn one force on.

Also try using area effectors instead and see what you prefer. I believe there are some local/global options with the directional force that might interrupt with what you are trying to do now.

another idea: Using the area effector, you can link the amount of power to a set value event and then when pressing a directional button it will gradullay increase its power to a certain amount.

Or for one directional button: An area effector that turns on when pushing down (left button) and turns the area effector off when releasing(left button) Repeat this for each directional button and you have a pretty decent working sphere

This is pretty much what I did with the Directional Force before you edited your post & it didn't really work. I set every State Event to Toggle, and made it so every Stick Direction activated Directional Force on Push & de-activated on Release, but even with this setup, the force didn't deactivate when letting go of the stick (or at least some of them didn't de-activate).

I'll try it with the Area Effector though, fingers crossed it works.

Yeah, I edited out the question about you having Evolution, because there is an example track about creating a Sphere-like game. In the example they use exactly what I wrote in cursive, so it should work for you now. If not, post a picture or a video again of your setup if you can, maybe there is something you are overlooking.

I actually have Trials Evolution on the PC, so I checked there just to be sure. I've come up with a similar contraption: giant area effector with a complex direction stick/state event system; the only difference between mine & the Trials Evo example is that I've added diagonal directions. Despite being almost exactly alike, the damn ball doesn't even move:

[edit] Upon trying again, it does actually work, but with a new set of problems. Prior to this edit, I didn't let go of the control stick, but after trying again, letting go of the control stick certainly does get it moving, but it doesn't stop moving and just keeps on rolling in the direction I flicked no matter what I do.

I think some settings are just off. I can't really see what's wrong in the video. Maybe the ball is too heavy.. Or something else is interfering with it. Try setting it up with just one direction and see if you can get it to work then with different variations/options.

I'll check out the editor and try it myself and I'll let you know if something works for me

edit: tested it with just the left and right directional buttons. Works fine for me. I think you messed something up somewhere. Make sure physics on the object is on and that the area effector's forces actually affect the sphere. Try reducing the weight of the sphere in advanced physics or increasing the amount of force exerted in the area effector. See if the physics bubble is big enough and actually encompasses the ball you are trying to move.

edit2: after some more testing I think I have the same issue, I thought it was just my controller, but sometimes the editor won't read the inputs. Well.. either it's my controller or the editor is just really being weird, cause now it works fine again.

You can just use the 4 standard directions. Left, right, up, down and select 'activate on diagonal'. it works fine with me now btw.

Ok, I've gotten rid of the Effectors pointing diagonally, set the rest of them to Activate on Diagonal. It now looks exactly like the Trials Evolution Example Map.

    Physics are on.

    The weight is below 100kg.

I've tried numerous different force levels ranging from 1000-4500; it just changes the speed.

The Physics Bubble is easily big enough to encompass the ball.

and still, the slightest tap in any direction almost always results in the ball uncontrollably moving in that direction. Surprisingly, there were some moments where I could control it, but it only lasts one or two taps before going on a rampage again.

I think there's a bug in the 'on release' checkbox for the Controller Stick Events.

mm.. ok. Could be a bug indeed. Maybe there are other ps4 owners that are experiencing the same problems.
