Is the 9600XT a problematic card?, I shall get a FX 5600 instead?

    Problematic?

no reason to be problematic at all.

Major rule in video cards: the more it costs, the better it is.

However, this rule doesn't really apply to cards from different manufacturers for exact same card type because some give "extra" things like games and other don't etc and performance wise they vary insignificantly.

Of the two you've listed, I would definitely get the 9600.
quote:
Originally posted by Flakwalker:

Nothing "problematic" about the 9600. Easily a better card than the 5600. However, if you can afford it, I'd get a 9700 Pro or better video card. I'd stay away from the 9800 Atlantis or any 9800 SE cards.

Also, please post your diagnosis so we can get a gander at the lil 'puter you want to shove this perspective card in. Then we will be able to give you more accurate advice as to whether or not a video card is the right upgrade for your particular situation. Who knows; steve v may give you advice on drivers etc. that will save you from having to do any upgrades at all or help your computer perform well enough to get by until you can afford something better than a 4 pixel pipeline video card. You also might want to click on my link for the users guide. It will tell you how to run a diagnosis (a 5 minute process) and more.

    Currently I have a Ti4200 128mb, with a 9600xt I will get any improvement?
What difference the 9600xt from a 9700 pro?, I mean what I get, not what a benchmark can tell me.

The biggest improvement you will see is being able to turn on some eye candy and still get the same fps you are getting now without it.

By eye candy I mean Anti-aliasing(smoothes edges) and Anisotropic filtering (improves textures).

Whether or not you get better speed is mostly dependent on your CPU and Ram speed. This particular game is very cpu dependant.

    Good Luck!

Hmmm, I thought that was up to you based on the info we gave you.

We really need much more info about your system to give you an honest opinion on that.

If you want to see some noticable improvement when you upgrade, get a Radeon 9800 Pro, about US$50 more than a 9600XT. While not top of the line after the release of the X800 series, the 9800 Pro is a great card for the money. You won't see much difference going to a 9600XT from a 128 MB 4200 Ti, except, as the above post says, in running AA and AF.
