Just a silly innocent question. How do people work out that they are 1/4 or 1/8 of something? Is there a rule you're all following or just ball-parking it based on your knowledge of your family tree?

Just knowledge of your family tree. I guess most people would just go by the nationalities of their grand parents as a rough estimate.

Born and live in Australia with Finnish parents/grandparents. My Finnish is rubbish though as I rarely speak it - although I can understand it very well. Still eat a lot of Finnish foods/dishes though. Piimä, musta leipä and makkarasoppa FTW!
