I reinstalled Windows, while keeping my games on another drive. Since Uplay is - for the sake of not banning me from forum due to profanity I say it politely - NOT very capable of actual game management, I cannot tell it directly where old installation is and Blacklist is not under "installed" games. I read on interwebs it is possible to 'register' game by adding its registry key under HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Ubisoft\Launcher and Uplay then detects the game. I just do not know which files I need to put there.
Can some good soul please export and post their registry keys and values for Blacklist so I can try convince UnotPlay that game is installed? It should look like this, I am using other game as an example:
I have Win7 but I assume registry keys do not change.Code:Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Ubisoft\Launcher\Installs] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Ubisoft\Launcher\Installs\544] "InstallDir"="E:\\Ubisoft\\WATCH_DOGS" "Language"="cs-CZ" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Ubisoft\Watch_Dogs] "Exe"="WATCH_DOGS.exe" "StartArguments"=""
Edit: I have retail version, not from Steam. Steam may have different way of registration as Uplay found Steam's Conviction.
TIA.
Bumpity bump ... nobody with non-steam Blacklist who knows how to use regedit?
- Go to Start menu or Start screen, in Search field type "regedit" without quotes and hit Enter
- Windows asks if you allow to run this program. Confirm, there is no harm to be done if you just look and do not change any values
- In registry editor, on the left side there are few trees. Navigate (click on small triangle next to it) to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Wow6432Node (maybe it is Wow32Node if you have 32-bit Windows) -> Ubisoft
- Locate Blacklist hive (a.k.a. 'directory') there, under Ubisoft
- Right-click on it and in contextual menu select Export
- Save dialog opens up, navigate to where you want to save it (let's say Desktop), give it a name, down below under Export Range select "Selected branch". Save.
- Close registry editor program, nothing else to be done here
- Go to the folder where you saved the file - for example desktop. It has icon of white document and light blue cubes stacked on each other. Do not double-click, right-click on it instead, and select Edit
- Notepad opens up. Edit out any information you think that are proprietary or identifiable - but there should be none. All I am interested in are lines like "[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Ubisoft\La uncher\Installs\544]" and in lines under it "execPath"="something.exe" and "installDir"="someting_else.exe" or "Exe"="someother.exe" - that's what I am trying to find out
- Paste content of file here
Edit: Okay I have figured that following at least puts game into "Installed games" section, but apparently I am still missing the Launcher part and parameters within, probably. It spits error complaining about missing essential information in registry.
Code:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Ubisoft\Splinter Cell Blacklist] "InstallDir"="E:\\Ubisoft\\Splinter Cell Blacklist" "ExecPath"="E:\\Ubisoft\\Splinter Cell Blacklist\\src\\SYSTEM\\gu.exe"
posting it here for my own future reference when I happen to reinstall Windows again, and hopefully somebody finds it useful too.
I installed this game on my second PC to get registry entries for uplay. Which means when I ran the game it flushed cloud saved progress out and replaced it with blank oneWell, at least I have some incentive to re-play the game
See, that's why I did not want to re-install the game, and I should turn cloud saves off. Or buy games off Steam and not retail boxes, those are already in Uplay.
Disclaimer: Following entries do one and only thing - they place game into Uplay Installed Games list under your account and enable to run it from there, view progress etc. This does not replace full installation, i.e. you won't get entries in Control Panel for uninstalling game, Start menu entries or other stuff. This is just for convenience of registering previously installed game with Uplay.
Pre-requisites:
- Blacklist was already on disk, i.e. copied from backup, directory with games moved to larger drive, from other computer, or installed on another drive from before Windows reinstall
- Game patched to 1.03
Copy text to text editor (like notepad).Code:Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\UbiSoft] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\UbiSoft\Splinter Cell Blacklist] "execPath"="E:\\Ubisoft\\Splinter Cell Blacklist\\src\\SYSTEM\\gu.exe" "gameAudio"="int" "gameLanguage"="int" "installdir"="E:\\Ubisoft\\Splinter Cell Blacklist" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\UbiSoft\Splinter Cell Blacklist\GameUpdate] "execPath"="E:\\Ubisoft\\Splinter Cell Blacklist\\Blacklist_Launcher.exe" "info"="insert_your_long_hexa_code_here" "installdir"="E:\\Ubisoft\\Splinter Cell Blacklist" "language"="us" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\UbiSoft\Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® Blacklist™] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\UbiSoft\Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® Blacklist™\1.00] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\UbiSoft\Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® Blacklist™\1.00.1000] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\UbiSoft\Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® Blacklist™\1.01] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\UbiSoft\Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® Blacklist™\1.02] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\UbiSoft\Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® Blacklist™\1.03]
Edit coloured lines to match your computer:
Red to match folder with Blacklist
Blue to match 32-byte hexa key that Uplay generates, without dashes. Found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\Savegames
Possibly change Language and Audio settings to match your translated version.
Save file as .reg. Then right-click on it and select Merge. Confirm.
My guess is that there's less needed than this, but I am not going to speculate right now what's the minimum setup to have game appear in Uplay. Maybe next timeFor example those version entries are not needed as gu.exe takes care of updates, but they may be there for when another update gets released - which will never happen so consider this as a final version then. Other games work the same way, it's just few entries in Registry to have them back in Uplay.
Nice one dude.. works perfectly.. You're a legend!Originally Posted by SanityAgathion Go to original post
Got my Far Cry 4 reinstalled too without downloading again thanks to the trick with the Null -> SOH.. sorted!! :-)
If only Ubisoft were as helpful as real people, eh..
right,
so it turns out that the game was doing weird things with these the reg files but it was working alright. For some reason it wouldn't save checkpoints in between missions but it would save if you completed the mission. Didn't seem to be saving settings all the time either.. kept going to windowed mode, and some weird sound bugs.. And uplay wouldn't run from the PLAY button even though it said play instead of download.
I'm on windows 8.1..
Anyway I ended up reinstalling again and this time I saved the reg files. I ended up with 21 separate entries! I was on the windows 10 preview at the time, and I rolled back today, (the rollback is a great feature by the way!) deleted the old reg entries and merged my new 21 entries and all is perfect.
I'm going to save them until the end of time so if anybody wants them just let me know here or email me at gijoe50000@gmail.com and I'll zip them and send them on.
Everything is there except the firewall exceptions so you'll just have to allow the game through the firewall if it isn't already..

Haven't used it yet but may be worth checking out too..
Edit: Nevermind, this worked for me. Games were complaining about missing directX files. This was fixed by running any Steam game which installed those.
It seems the long hexa number may be used as some kind of identifier and used for cloud sync as well? When I put number from previous installation, it synchronized with cloud and retrieved proper saves files. This means that when backing up games for OS reinstall, it is good to back those folders too, instead of letting each new install create anew and wiping game saves? I do not dig that much into how Uplay works, I just want to be able to conveniently start the game.
Original post:
Well, it seems this registry hack does not do complete job. Uplay upgraded since, added some new features (hoo-ray ... but those most useful do not apply to "older" games). And I have been subdued by Microsoft and upgraded to Windows 10. Did a clean re-install today and wanted to add Blacklist to the list ... but it keeps complaining. I will update if I manage to do something in order to avoid redownloading it (I have crappy internet now).
