    The beer thread!

Beer beer beer, I'm gonna drink some beer!

Any beer aficionados on these boards?

What are your favorite beer styles and what are the styles you don't like? For me it's almost only craft and import beers, not the usual bottled pee like bud, coors etc...

    Favorite styles;

Stouts, double/imperial stouts, coffee stouts, milk stouts, oatmeal stouts, hmmmm... I am definitely a stout man!

IPAs, double/imperial and/or black IPAs and pale ales, bring on the hops!

Belgian abbey style strong beer. Classic!

Witbiers (white beers), refreshing, light and spicy, when I feel like something lighter.

Scotch ales, I am a fan.

    Least favorites:

German beers like altbiers, I think I can't stand German yeasts.

Sweet and syrupy beers like barley wines and eisbocks (ice beers).

Porters, meh, I had some good porters but not a style I am a fan of.

    Cheers!

i'm from belgium so i like my beers

i prefer our stronger ones that are like 8% and our trappisten
the ones i like most currently are La chouffe, duvel, chimay blue, hopus

    i don't like fruitbeers

my dad also makes his own beer altough i wouldn't really call it beer anymore, even though one of the base ingredients is a bunch of beer. its more like porto or cherry but it tastes nice and isn't as sticky, very nice to drink in the summer when its hot as an appetiser for a bbq or so

he makes 3 different kinds, raspberry, cherry or with mullberries
even though i said i don't like fruitbeers i like these, but i wouldn't call this beer anyway

Nice, I love Belgian trappists and abbey style brews and you know Belgians are the cream of the crop , I am having an Orval right now, also I love Duvel, Maredsous and Chimay Red (haven't had the Blue yet but will get some tomorrow) Also Delirium Tremens isn't bad as well as Hoegaarden and Abbaye de Leffe when I can't get the finer stuff or when I feel like something lighter. My friends who have been to Belgium (I have many) all had great things to say about Kwak, which is one of the next ones I'll try when I can get my hands on some.

Here in Quebec I have to say craft beer is booming and getting pretty amazing, I live 5 minutes from Dieu du Ciel! brewery/pub and they make some mean beers, they have a pretty extreme philosophy and go above and beyond in most of the styles they do, I love most of their products, notably Péché Mortel, a 9.5% ABV imperial stout brewed with high end coffee, BAM! I wouldn't drink 2 of those but that's the thing, I never drink the same beer twice in the same week as I hold over 30 varieties at all time

Also quality over quantity, I do not like getting drunk, so I rarely have more than 2 beers, just a little woozy is fine with me but this is more about love of beer than love of alcohol, although paradoxically I like beers with high ABV, often 9% or more.

    Cheers!

I'm not a such beer expert that I could start talking about any specific types and qualities, but I do prefer going out for some beer tasting over getting wasted as I'm getting older. One of the best things about moving to Helsinki is the excellent selection of civilized pubs. I don't have favorites, but bitters and those beers that taste too much of fruits are not for me.

orval has become almost imposible to find here, you can find it in a few bars but if you wannabuy a crate you're out of luck and it got quite pricy too.
maredsous , i had one recenty and it was average, don't think i had a chimay red yet
i like delerium too, leffe is ok(a bit sweet)
kwak has been ages since i had any, i remember liking it but was still very young back then

i only drink 1 or 2 too, these beers are meant to be enjoyed

My favorite is Lapin Kulta because it was once done in Lapland. Doesn't actually taste any better than other beers but it my mind it does!

De Konnick, Keo (Cyprus Lager), Estrella, ******ss, Duvel, Lots of UK ales from brewers like Timothy Taylor, Black Sheep, etc. Too many to list. More of a Stella and Whiskey man these days.

I drink whatever's in front of me lol, I haven't really found anything I particularly "like". Which is kind of ironic. I manage an inventory of a few hundred beers at my grocery store lol.
