The way you guys refer to patches as "free updates" makes me believe hat one day developers will justify charging their customers for a fix on a broken/unfinished game.
Are we going to get advertisements in these paid DLCs?
And it's hard to compare Trials DLCs to FPS maps built from the ground up, or massive additions like Far Cry or Skyrim.
When dlc is done right, ita a great thing for gaming. I remember spending hours and hours on games like 1080 snowboarding, which had SIX TRACKS! Thats how it shipped, and I was happy, because thats what I was given and I got my monies worth. If I could have had more, I would have bought it, but no such thing as dlc back then. When dlc was introduced for console gaming I was very happy to know that when I had finished a game that was brilliant and wished there was more, there was at least a chance that there would be.
some companies abuse this with things like on disc dlc and pitiful add ons which amount to little more than an hours worth of content, but RL aint one of them. I know a lot of people dont share this sentiment, I choose to vote with my wallet, and I will get loads of value from these forthcoming packs, creating tracks and trying to beat morrillo and booped on the SP tracks. For me that value is good value, and lets face it, as was with 1080, what we have now could have been the end of it.
I think they are just making it clear that there are optional updates you do pay for (DLC) versus the regular bug-fixes updates, versus the enhancement updates that add features to the game that are not there at this time (ex tournaments, MP). The latter two are "free"....ie you don't have to pay to get MP, etc.Originally Posted by xzamplez Go to original post
A couple of comments:
We have not yet announced names, dates, or amount of content for any of the DLCs. We will as soon as we can, of course. But this time we are doing 6 DLCs for Fusion and testing them and optimizing them for four platforms, while both previous games only had 2 DLCs. So you can imagine the schedule is tighter and more challenging and the scope has been adjusted accordingly. However you should not have to wait six months for the first DLC as was the case in Trials Evolution.
"Free feature packs" are NOT just patches. Yes they will include fixes and optimizations, because a free feature update is a good time to bundle as many changes as possible into one certification submission for the platforms. But each free feature pack will introduce new game features in addition, such as tournaments or the future online multiplayer mode. We will show those in time when we can, probably on the official RedLynx Twitch stream in addition to our other normal channels.
Regarding cross-platform track sharing: As we have said in interviews, it is something we want to do and we are looking into it with determination. However it will require updates to the game and cooperation of our partners. Apart from Disney Infinity, I don't believe sharing user-generated content between console platforms from different companies like has been done before and I am not sure how extensive their UGC really is.
