Making games professionally is just not the same, you have your role to fill, and unless that role is project lead/producer/lead designer, the game is not your vision. Every single project I have worked on, it's always been my vision. I don't want to give up my creative freedom for money
Well said, my friend... Exactly what's been hindering my progress towards pursuing a career in the gaming industry. Not to mention all of the money-grubbing and slimy tactics that seem to be trending amongst studios recently... I just can't seem to muster the enthusiasm to be part of that.

Well said yourself. Business takes precedence over artistic expression by far for most. My whining about wanting to be project lead/loss of creative freedom is not important in comparison to this, after all you need a team to make a game from scratch at not everybody can be in lead positions. The truly great works have a solid vision and solid teamwork, and don't make ridiculous design compromises for the sake of money.
Indeed it's the way the industry operates these days that is most off-putting. You'll end up some publisher's ***** making soulless games, unless you get lucky.

Its the same as the music industry, the tv industry etc. For every classic like the wire, there is a soap like emmerdale. Unfortunately ite the world we live in, got to make the most of the good stuff.

The ratio of quality to trash was significantly different years back though. Also TV and Music doesn't have the ******** business practices, not quite as bad anyway. Only the video game industry gets away with copious ********. They get away with it because all the mugs (customers) let it happen. If it continues there won't be much good stuff to make the most of...

Believe me I make the most of the good stuff, but I'll damn well complain about the bad in between

Imagine if season 2 of the wire DVD set released with missing advertised bonus content, and episodes 1 and 5 didn't work? Then they had the cheek to sell/advertise it to you again later. This wouldn't be put up with to this extent in any other industry.
The worst however is when a dev studio intentionally compromises design to appeal to a broad audience. Though this does happen in other industries too. Intentionally dumb products when it's been proven a team can do far better, it's sad.

On topic: Anyone have trouble with Global OPE? Multiple instances of screwy behaviour from OPE using global coordinates in my skill game. It works the first few times the event is called, then it just...stops. No other influences either. Almost certain is a bug.
It only seems to happen with OPE that are fed 1 impulse. An OPE with a constant flow of impulses works fine, but if, say an area trigger on hit to OPE, it just goes weird after repeated uses which makes no sense at all because it works the first few time/s and I've checked over all possible influences on my end.
