Article: 20 Songs on Rocksmith that you NEED to try on Bass

“Those who can’t play guitar, play bass.”

Well, a lot of people like to say that, but it takes a zen-like focus to hold down the rhythm section of a band. Without the Bass (Unless you are Jack White or Dan Auerbach perhaps) most songs can sound empty and lack that underlying sub-woofery wave that you sorely need.

What songs can Rocksmith 2014 offer for the aspiring bassist? Well, if you’ve overlooked these 20 songs we’d have to say you’re doin’ it wrong.

    Thanks for reading

Cool, I've got quite a lot of them, and some others I might grab.

Gotta say I really like the way you do your videos. The overlay/transparency between the game and your playing work really well. Far better than my attempts.

Just to clarify I (toymachine/Elliott) manage the channel and Elison Cruz provides the videos. If you want to see how bad I am at guitar/bass http://youtube.com/toymasheensh

If you are interested in learning how to create videos like Elison's etc.

    Time for an upgrade?

Seriously though, which browser are you using?

It's not you. It's a first gen iPad. Too much video always crashes the browser. More so if I've played a game recently. It seems to not recover memory quickly. Most of the time I can get back in without an issue after a crash but a lot of video, like your page, will continue to crash no matter what.

I was able to read the captions so no biggie.

And with it generally working fine, no need to upgrade it

Agreed -- cool video technique, and solid list.

    I would have included:
Space Oddity (David Bowie; RS1 DLC) - Aside from Black Betty (which is the only song I haven't been able to pass ), to me, this is THE Rocksmith bass song.
Paranoid Android (Radiohead; On Disc) - The bass drives this song for half and then takes a back seat for the bridge. Fun, changing bass lines make this 7+ minute song feel fresh beginning to end.
Give It All (Rise Against; RS2014 DLC) - A more upbeat picking song that has a few walking bits.
Girl’s Not Grey (AFI; RS2014 DLC) - Two really catchy riffs with lots of variation and walks. A super fun bridge with a couple syncopated hits that disrupt the rhythm but feel great when you nail them. Wrap it up with a nice build-up and back to the catchy riffs. A must have for bassists, IMO.
Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker) (Parliament; RS1 DLC) - Those sliiiiiiiides!
Unnatural Selection (Muse; RS1 Import) - My favorite bass song on RS1. I like how the DGDG tuning makes the bass lines more engaging than just the Lead chart's root notes.
Cowboys From Hell (Pantera; RS1 DLC) - A lesson in alt. picking and tight riffing... for bass!
