    Track central xp...exploit or cheating?

Wasn't quite sure where to say this. In a recent post from shifty to the community(very much appreciated, thank you) he outlined the priorities of the team. He made mention of the track central xp exploits and how he thought it is straight up cheating. I take issue with that. Everyone doing that is merely playing the game as it was made, and it doesn't effect any other players, so I can't see how that's a cheat. What it IS is an exploit to a half baked design. Way back in the days of evo people talked about getting xp for custom tracks, and I stated back then, that if players get xp or money for finishing tracks, THIS is what would occur. Also, it doesn't incentivize speedrunning. You can play a track for an hour, but if you don't finish a run, you don't get xp. That seems off.

-players should get xp for their time spent playing, IN ADDITION to xp for finishing tracks. That way you are rewarded for both playing lots of tracks, AND for being hardcore and actually trying on any track. Yes, this can be milked by simply not doing anything, but that seems rather painful, and is still not the most effient way to level up with these parameters.

I believe redlynx just screwed the pooch on this one, and should just take their lumps, and tweak it in the future, and certainly NOT point fingers at the players.

I couldn't agree more. Cheating? No. Exploit? Yes. Is the system for exp flawed within TC? Yes. But how would you structure it time based so you are awarded for both time spent and completions? I feel that's a needed explanation for RL to make changes.

I'm not too concerned with the specific structure of time/xp earned. I think they would need to restructure the level tiers. If they keep it at 50xp per finish, I guess you should get 1xp per second or few seconds. I do like the idea of still getting sizable xp for actually finishing tracks. However, if they were to change anything, I bet they'd rather restructure it entirely. Who knows, maybe have a fancy math equation to sum up a process for making a steady amount of xp at a higher amount for tracks played longer than a few seconds, idk, to discourage "cheating".

The brain trust at redlynx could probably do whatever they want with it. Implementing it in any way would be better than it is now, even if xp grinder tracks are still the fastest. People wouldn't bother with them so much if they felt like they can still get sizabLe xp by just playing. Playing in all forms, not just finishing.

It's absolutely not cheating. It's an exploit at best. That would be equivalent of me saying the development team are poor for not preventing it in the first place i.e.. an extreme statement.

I am fairly certain the developers would have considered/discussed this possibility during development and decided it would be better to leave it as is rather than include restrictions in the editor that limited such exploits. Would have been alot more work for them to add restrictions that would hinder the experience more than it would help.
