Pit Viper Impressions
What's your opinion on the new phoenix, the pit viper ?
Do you think it will live up to the standards of the phoenix in evo ?
After an hour of play, I would say :
-Bike has great capicities for wheelies and back wheel bouncing
-Basic Ninja Moves have been simplified a lot
-The Pit Viper feels way too light

I complained about it before the game came out but it looks too chunky, the frames not far off the size of the old scorpion.
Phoenix looked better.
Gameplay-wise I'd agree it doesnt feel weighted properly, difficult to explain really but it feels kinda like the bike is made from cardboard not metal - something the Banshee suffered from.
Suspension feels stiffer but with no penalty for it - you hit the ground from a height, the bike barely drops and you just carry on riding.
Grip feels increased aswell, overall just much easier to use and kinda dumbed down imo.
All of that is me being picky though ^, I don't like it as much as the Phoenix but it's pretty fun to use, could have been worse.

I actually think the Pit Viper is an improvement over the Evo's Phoenix. It feels a little less floaty than Evo's version, though only a little. However, I still think the Trials HD phoenix is the best version of this bike. It felt like it had a bit of weight to it and was harder to manoeuvre, just like a real bike. I understand that it's a game and that realism has to be compromised somewhat in order to make the game more fun but Trials HD was a much better balance on how the bike should handle in my opinion.
On a side note, I'd like to see a more realistic bicycle trials bike to replace the Rabbit. The Rabbit is way too overpowered for a bicycle, it should never be as quick as it is for a pedal powered machine. A real bicycle trials bike with very low ratio gears would be a great bike for short, technical tracks that don't rely on speeding up and down big ramps and doing loop-the-loops etc.

The speed of reversing has been deliberately reduced to counter the ease of correcting the bike back to the wheels when leaning back too far.
Its too bouncy and the accelerator is twitchy, but apart from that it's......fine.

I feel like the Viper is a bit rear heavy, but over all it seems the bike can be manipulated easier.

I don't mind it, personally. It's like they took the Phoenix and gave it some Banshee characteristics.
-It is easier to maneuver.
-It has a lot of torque. Too much if you ask me.
-It has a silly amount of grip. Climbing steep obstacles is not much of a challenge anymore.
-It is heavier and less bouncy than the Phoenix when landing from big jumps.
It is dumbed down like Willyumz said, but it's one of the only things that makes this game feel like a new Trials game.
EDIT: After returning to Evo, I now realize how much smoother and natural the Phoenix feels. The only pro to the Pit Viper is the lack of bounciness when landing.

I've held off on having a strong opinion on the bikes physics. It's a new game, with different physics, with tracks designed for it, so I threw any frustration Ive had out the window. But I've ridden hard enough now that I'm comfortable saying that I just like Evo's phoenix better. The viper can do neat things, but I think it's to bouncy and "poppy". I have an insanely hard time being consistent with it. I've platinumed everything but inferno iv, but I often get hung up on many obstacles because of the wild results the bike gives me when I'm just a teeny bit off my timing. Part of that could be the level design. It also seems they tired to take away all those wonderfull failsafe maneuvers that evo had. Fender hooks are way harder to nail, brake fapping is less godlike, and it's more difficult to muscle your way up and over stuff by holding the brakes with your front wheel on top of something.
It's not bad, but I've spend so much time with the evo playing what was a better game. I don't think I can give this bike the same attention, so I'm not going to adjust very well.

I have so many things i could say about the Viper and theyre not good. But im just going to break it down 3 ways i find the most annoying-
1) When landing from any jumps above 5 feet on a flat surface, the bike will glitch half of the time resulting in losing speed- this is noticeable when you land on your back tire in the right posture and somehow the bike decides to brake for a split second and it pulls down your front tire really hard. Where the f did this come from?
2) The front tire, when going fast enough, will brake as soon as it hits an object that it does not like. For reference, play Park and Ride- near the end when you jump off the solar panel and land on a downhill ramp before the water sprout, your bike will brake-glitch. Even if you do clear that, it will still react the same way when you jump over the sprouts to the other end. You basically have to wheelie everything just to let the front tire down softly so it doesnt glitch.
3) Another thing i noticed playing Expedition, when attempting the first timesaver, if i land on a downhill object from a big jump and lean forward just as i get on a flat surface the rider will lunge forward really hard and stay that way momentarily. You also see this on FMX tracks.
Also, is it just me or is a little bit harder to set yourself up for spring jumping while going full speed? The bike is just a tad bit heavier in Fusion, but i think it has alot to do with the rider not leaning back and forward as hard as it did in Evo.

to bouncy added to the fact the game has more bad collisions than a dave pigeon man track .. you can hear the engine noise when it looses grip all the time groaning .sup post to be a trials bike reminds me of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04-gLJ5rCmo

the main thing i'm finding that compared to the phoenix the bike is a lot more stable. with the phoenix i found if i didn't control my landing correctly i would be bouncing all over the place, with the viper it just seems to want to settle down a lot easier which i find to be less punishing.
on top of what others have said the best way i think i can describe the bike is more of a sponge where the phoenix is more of a spring. i'd love to get the phoenix back in some future DLC.
