How big a deal 1080p is to you is dependant on alot of factors including the size of your display. I assure you on a 60", 70" or higher size display native resolution matters more and more. That being said I maxed out the PC BETA in various resolutions including 900p (not that there's such a thing) and 1080p on an ISF calibrated 50" display and the differences were negligible to say the least.

My concerns are not related to resolution, but rather how far can I push a custom track on the XBox One vs the PS4? I know there's no straight answer to this due to the numerous variables involved, but I'd hope the difference is also negligible.

In more general terms, I worry that the lesser resolution of the XB1 is indicative of a general "weakness" and means I'll get everything for the PS4 to make sure there are fewer general performance issues for me. Which kind of leaves me with an XB1 that wont have any games..........hopefully, the Crew being 1080p and 30fps on both consoles show that the performance of future games will be more similar.

Thats really my only gripe with the resolution differences tbh.

the resolution difference isn't a big deal, and xbone being 900p doesn't mean the game will run worse, only when tc starts being used properly we'll be able to tell which console runs best for all we know 360 might be the place where customs run better even though they will look worse

also barry you should be worried about why the crew is only 30fps, 30fps for a racing game aint good

I think thats down to the sheer size of the world and the fact its persistent and MP based to try and maitain a set frame rate and reduced dropped frames. But I agree, it would be nice to see more 1080p AND 60fps games for nextgen soon.

I seem to remember reading somewhere - that 720p at a locked 60fps - is the same GPU workload as 1080p/30 - so 1080p at 60fps - is an extra 50% - without loosing effects / AA/ AF is hard to get to on any of the consoles..

I haven't seen many 1080p/60 [locked] games on either console? - apart from titles like Resogun - or Forza 5 [losing some effects to hit it] most 'target' 60 - some do fall short..

Fusion - looks great and they did a great job maintaining the 60 fps [locked] - with those effects etc

Most, if not all open world games - seem to be hitting 1080p/30 - The Crew included - due to the amount of detail and size of the map.

I actually hope not. It seems to be this was a design decision on their part (they are quoted as saying they didnt want differences between versions), so they levelled the playing field down rather than up, but we will see...
I went PS4 for multiplat games to get the very best experience and don't want it held back by the XB1 weaker stats...I really hope devs DO develop to the strengths of each console and don't go for a middle ground. Shame on MS for making us have this conversation in the first place (and yes I do own an XB1 but only for exclusives).

It's not always that simple to 'blame' one version for holding things back.

Even triple A exclusive titles on PS4 don't always hit 60fps.

Killzone is 30 fps in single player mode, and the multiplayer mode frequently drops to 40-50fps. COD Ghosts is more stable, but it also drops quite frequently to ~50 fps. Infamous Second Son runs at around 30-40 fps. Titanfall on Xbox One dips down to ~30 fps in heavy firefight (but most often runs at around 40-50 fps) and their resolution is quite low 792p.

We are 60 fps locked on all consoles (1080p on PS4 and 900p on Xbox One). Sure some of the other next gen games might have slightly more bells and whistles, but for our game locked 60 fps is the best choice, because our game play is fully physically based and requires quick reaction time. Game play is the most important thing for us.

Indeed - frame rate will always win for myself in this type of game
