How does ANBA choose your opponent?

I havent gotten to play ANBA yet, but from what I've been hearing. . . I think I'd like some facts from folks who have played it.

It does more than make you beat a platinum score, I think? Does it force you to beat your own best score or something? Does it make you do it with random bikes?

Is this worstcase scenario true? Example: I make the #5 score in the world with my vastly improved Tango, but it makes me try and beat it with my unimproved Bronco?

I get a little worried that I am working hours to make a #5 global score. . .and then its going to make me beat #4, or something. That really wouldnt sit well when I know that somebody who has a #300 score in the world only has to beat #299, or something.....

So please... somebody who thinks they understand it give a small tutorial for those of us who havent had a chance yet.....

ANBA chooses one of your worst tracks and makes you beat a ghost of someone ranked higher than you using any bike you choose. You can ask for a new opponent if it is too difficult.

It tries to find a fair match to give you a little challenge. Rarely it uses runs that are slower than your personal best. It doesn't force you to use specific bikes. It pairs you against people based on your position, not your bike ability. So, you could race against people beating you by seconds.

You can only skip the challenge by paying 10 gems. Effectively forcing you to grind for upgrades, or pay gems.

The core concept of it is great enough to be an addition to the console version, but, like everything in Frontier, it can't go without the freemium crap to hurt the experience.

It doesn't choose your worst tracks. It's chosen tracks I was 1st on before.

Thanks for the info. But still.... By my sitting here optimizing all my scores to the best of my ability for the global leaderboards..... Hours of time in the beta phase, waiting for the bug fixes so I can play more.... I am only making my ANBA set of tracks/quests that much harder to complete, correct? I could be stuck on a challenge for days unless I pay gems, and even then it's good odds it's just going to pick some OTHER track that will be just as hard for me.

While some other guy who hasn't done anything can come along and breeze through the challenge with some average improvement in skill.

It hardly seems right somehow. I like a challenge, but this grind is wearing a little thin....it's a toss up whether I'll keep my interest up long enough to finish ANBA.

Even worse: It has matched me against the same run right after I spent gems to skip it.

And, yes, you can purposefully slowly improve your runs after you get ANBA to make it easier to progress. In that way, it's exploitable.

It just did it again. 10 gems to skip dumptruck, who has a maxed bronco on a bronco friendly line, and it just pair me up with him again. The game is stealing money from me (I paid $20 for 1000).

    lol upgrade ur bronco xzamplez

it does seem like ANBA picks tracks you are "worse" at. however, i have the vast majority of my tracks top 5, which likely throws a wrench in the works for ANBA. probably explains why I always get the same tracks (I've had to beat jamaicanX on burning bushes sooooooooooooooo many times now). near the beginning I got alot of rocky desert, but then i got the WR on it and i dont get it any more. same with backyard catwalk, till i got rank 2. strangely when i hit rank 2 on burning bushes, it still gave me lots of burning bushes... im pretty sure i can count on one hand the tracks I get frequently though.

I wouldnt worry too much about upgrading your tracks now, and then having to do it again later for ANBA. you can always upgrade your bikes to make it easier on yourself, and anba gives between 3k and 10k per mission, so upgrades can come quick. also, it's pretty fun to have a ghost to race against, who is about your speed.

as far as the match making, I believe it will just match you up with someone who is ranked around where you are on leaderboards, not necessarily above, or below. when I first unlocked mushroom heights only a couple people had played it, and i got paired a few times with the guy below me on LBs, who was over 2 seconds slower

but all this is null cuz ANBA is dead :/

Heh, personally I am not upgrading ANYTHING right now. . .saving my money for the eventual 3-4 new bikes once we finally get Maruader + Tier3 bikes.

Slowly worked up to 600K + 270 gems. . . which will be pretty nice for the earlier bike levels, but a drop in the bucket for high-level upgrades (cant imagine what the new bike costs will be....)
