Now that the game has been out for a few days I have a few questions.
Which platform did you buy it it on and which version?
How hard are you finding it?
I picked up the 360 Black Armour edition, the PS3 Collector's edition and have the Pc Black Armour edition on order. I am presently playing the 360 version.
Seems all the worry about the game being easier was for nothing IMHO especially if you are starting off with a strength build like myself. Am having a much harder time on my first play through than I did the original. Still getting used to the changes in the combat system so can't make any final judgements in that regard. Level design is great, but the world seems to lack the cohesion of the first game to me. Overall a great game...obviously don't have any final thoughts as I haven't played enough to determine how this stands against past Souls games.
Waiting for PC release.

Bought it on PS3, love it so far. It seems as difficult as the other 2 games, and really feels like a mix of Dark and Demons to me. The weapons break very easily, and I guess this is offset by the extra weapon slot so you have more flexibility in that regard. I'm looking forward to exploring the world they have created, even if sometimes a feeling of 'I've done this before' creeps in from time to time. I put many, many hours into the other 2 games and I hope this one will prove to have the same amount of longevity.
I got trolled by the devs again, bought an item for 4000 souls to unlock a door, and later on found that item for free somewhere haha. Bastards![]()
Haha i bought an item for that price later finding out it was also free. Totally agree with you about the Demon's Souls influence in this one. I'm really struggling with the game to be honest. Thought i could do it as a pure fighter in solo, but now I'm starting to contemplate magic and even *gasp* co-op for my first play through.
I'm going to get on and play this game some more tonight. Need to get further in it. Going for that strength build.
Let us know how you go. That's what i'm working on and having a hard time withOriginally Posted by iStriide![]()
Won't be able to afford it for quite a while, but I'll definitely be getting it on xbox.
I went with Knight, so far done a Str/Adg/Dex build but with my first character I wont limit myself to a particular SL so I'm not too fussed with builds yet. I found it really tough to begin with, I'm finding my feet now though. I think it depends which order you take things in, going in blind I could have ended up anywhere but it seem like I found a good path. I always do the level solo, and then when I reach a boss I'll help some other dudes while I learn the patterns, then summon a couple of people and take it on myself.Originally Posted by D2Dahaka

Just got done with the trio tall slinky *******s. That boss is pretty annoying if you don't have an okay shield and a strong weapon. 1v3...not fun.
Beat the game today (By accident, did not at all expect it to be the last boss) and am pretty disappointed.
+ Mechanically, I think the game is superior to Dark Souls in almost every way. I love the changes to healing, blocking, guard breaking, equipment repair, etc.
+ I think PVP has a ton of potential. The amount of weapons, spells, armors, and consumables in this game is ridiculous. If From keeps the game balanced, the variety will be like nothing I've ever seen before.
+ I liked the openness of the game in the first two thirds. It brought back that awesome feeling from Demon's Souls, where I have 5 ways to go, but all of them seem impossible!
Now for the bad stuff...
- The game takes a huge dive in quality towards the end. I was pretty happy until about two thirds into the game, but then my opinion quickly changed. One area is ridiculously annoying and pretty much requires that you have some kind of ranged capability, which is terrible design. A sequence towards the end feels extremely out of place and is one of the most frustrating things I've ever played. It also felt like the game had to keep upping the ante on itself, and eventually becomes so stupidly difficult that you have no choice but to cheese or run past enemies. These areas were so bad that I almost never want to play through the game again.
- The game does not look nearly as good as it was shown in the trailers. Take a look at this. Yeah, this series isn't known for it's graphics, but the atmosphere in some areas is completely destroyed by the downgraded graphics. Also, the torch is almost completely useless now. It seems From gave up on the torch mechanic, and now areas that were pitch black before are just gray and look terrible. There's only one area where it's useful, and that's only if you turn the brightness all the way down. (Which you should, to experience the game almost as it was intended) It's depressing to see the remnants of the torch system still in the game, but having no reason to use it.
- The amazing interconnected world of the first Dark Souls is completely gone. This is probably the most disappointing thing. Transitions between areas feel lazy, are sometimes jarring, and most of the time make absolutely no sense. It feels like the world was cobbled together at the last second, while in Dark Souls it felt like the world was meticulously planned out from the very beginning. Gone are the shortcuts that made everyone say "wow" in the first game; Gone is seeing places far in the distance where you have been or are going to. Perhaps this is the result of being able to warp from the very beginning, but I don't think it had to be this way.
- Level design is sometimes extremely boring. There were several occasions where I would approach an awesome looking castle/mansion, expecting to spend hours exploring their intricate layouts, but would end up just running right through them. It seems From went for quantity over quality with the levels. Most are about half as long as the ones from the original game, and end just when it feels like they're getting started. Enemies are also reused far too often.
- A lot of bosses were "eh", but really this was the case for Dark Souls and Demon's Souls too. Was hoping they would improve on this aspect, and make each boss unique and exciting somehow, but they didn't. (Although it seems like they tried)
- Too many bonfires. This doesn't make the game any easier, as they made up for it by simply making enemies do crazy amounts of damage and easily stunlocking you. I much preferred the first Dark Soul's style, where enemies were weaker but you had to survive for much longer. It made each bonfire feel special, which is not the case here.
Honestly, I think they should have made this game next-gen only, and spent another year on it. Outside of Dark Soul's shadow, it's still an amazing game and I'll probably still play it a lot.
