Heeeeey haha seriously though my evo has never froze, but I didnt even play customs or build so yeah

I don't know what to blame here and I'm sorry for your loss, but I just wanted to give a tip for all of you and please don't take it as I'm accusing you of something. When your hardware freezes, don't pull the plug as there's necessarily not enough power in "storage" to turn every component off safely and there may be some power spikes. Just hold the power button until the console turns off. If it doesn't, try again because it should as it's telling the motherboard to shut down everything. Sudden power loss is never good if there are ongoing hdd operations and by turning it off that way there's at least the chance the hdd can prepare for the shutdown.

Plugging the cable out of the wall when a system is frozen is the WORST idea. That's possibly why the hard drive died.
