My Daughter passed her test 2 years ago and her first car was a Clio 1100 and insurance was £2600 + £800 for paying by monthly installments, total £3400, the car cost £550. After a year price dropped but not by much.

Expect to pay high insurance until you're 25 or you get 5+ years no claims.
