Hey everyone, I've played some great tracks recently and it made me think, what is the best track you have built that didn't get a RL pick? I'm curious as I would like to play themI know that some of you spend hours in the editor on tracks and maybe you have a personal favourite of yours that you put a lot more time into than other tracks of yours that did get a RL pick?
Travesty imo...unfortunately built when there was more competition for RLP (and more good tracks got overlooked).Originally Posted by souzr
The number of RLP has been fairly consistent, and completely NOT proportional to the number of good tracks per week unfortunately...
Why should not getting an RLP be a disappointment?
I'm posting this fully from when I was just making tracks like anyone else (before RL)...
You make tracks, because you want to make tracks. You have a cool idea and think "yeah, lets try making this track". My whole purpose of making tracks was because it was something I loved to do and because I found it fun. Sure making something cool sometimes you will think "hmm, is people going to like this track, I hope I did a good track and people like it". Nothing wrong with that. Trust the feedback to give you advice.
I've been on the forums long enough to be confident in saying... let's all chill out on the amount of statements (and I'm going to be bold in my statement again, chill out on the "this DL/track/detail sucks!" can't stand those comments) made on the tracks and builders for what they have made(in there free time). I also kind of cringe on the "cool track, 5*" feedback. Nobody gains exp from those posts, they only get appreciation. Nothing wrong with that but as a builder, I like the feedback where they tell me what I'm doing good and what I'm doing bad and where I can improve...
Nobody should be disappointed in what they have created, why? Sure maybe you can do better, everyone can. This is what the user created thread is about...give solid feedback, I see no reason to be harsh with feedback as long as it makes sense and the person you are saying it to will have an understanding on why you are giving that feedback.
To end my long *** post. Nobody should feel disappointed in their tracks. Nobody should have the mindset on thinking you should earn something from what you have made, only experience.
*Do it because you want to do it!
We should be helping each other out by giving tips/advice etc to one another on each others tracks to help the people who want to improve, improve. Not discussing on what we think our failures are.
Groundhog Grove probably
and Paul maybe not everyone wants good feedback and helpful responses - maybe Im only in the game for the cheddar and the biatches that go with it.
When I share something I want people to keep the criticisms to themselves and save all the praise for the forum so everyone can see it.
FEED ME
I agree with what 2witchy said, Before all i wanted was a pick and yeah got disappointed when it didnt happen. now all i want to do is improve and make tracks for myself and friends, if i get a pick its just a bonus. i enjoy becoming more experienced off of comments from friendsOriginally Posted by 2witchy![]()
Probably my map Overhaul. I've never worked harder on one of my maps.
I am not disappointed with De-Commissioned or any of my tracks. Regardless of it not getting a pick, i think its my best track. Thats why i just find it a bit odd, that some of the tracks i personally consider not as good as that one have a pick and that one doesn't.2witchy
As to all my other tracks, like you said i could have done better, but the process of making those tracks themselves was the learning experience that led up to De-Commissioned. So if i had never made those tracks i would never been able to make that one. That is why i dont regret making any of my tracks or be disappointed about them.
I started making tracks in EVO and i have done maybe +50 tracks, only maybe +15 have even made it to the 48hr feed.
But you have to start somewhere. And im here now cause i like making tracks, and because i want to make them, not because i want RL picks. If i would make tracks just for them, i probably would not be making tracks anymore or even be here on the forums. I can imagine how boring the game would get.
Like Acritarch said, the picks are just a bonus. It is nice to get recognition from the makers of the game. Like you guys making Fusion there, of course you make it cause you love making games, but on top of making the actual game, you probably hope that the fans and the critics will like the game aswell.
I agree with everything you said about feedback and such in your post
All of them.I personally don't care too much though. However if I did get one I wouldn't deny it.
I enjoy making maps mods and tracks on different games and I don't regret creating a single map at all. Feedback is important. However I still think looking back at our failures helps us see how far we have come.
On the flip side, seeing that first Redlynx Pick was a real pleasing big grin inducing moment. Most of us don't build to get a pick, but if you do get one its a lovely feeling.
