Computer problem thats really doing my head in

ok, as fate would have it after trolling vladiiiiiiiiis computer thread, now it turns out im looking to get some help myself.

this problem is absolutely nuts for me and i have no idea whats causing it.

when i click on stuff - some stuff - i have to click twice in order for the click to register. normal links on a browser will work on the first click, but clicks where you first type something and then hit 'OK' or 'send' or whatever, are screwed. its like the first click only moves the focus out of the typing box, and the 2nd click does what the 1st one was supposed to do.

now, this wouldnt be so bad if i wasnt a poker player and had to input amounts to bet and then click bet. i play multiple tables and some of them are turbo tables, and soon all these clicks amount to me timing out on a lot of tables. its an absolute wreck, and poker is pretty much unplayable for me now at multiple tables.

the only way to get it to work on the first click is to wait for about a second. that might not sound so bad, but trust me, its a nightmare in a situation where youre multitasking and have to be decently fast.

PLEASE HELP. i read somewhere that Spotify could be causing it. so i got rid of that and the problem stopped. but only to reappear after a while. i think it reappeared when i got utorrent, but that could be random and doesnt have to be the cause. and at any rate, i dont wish to uninstall a bunch of programs that i really would like to have only to remedy this ******* problem.

im on a new laptop, an acer aspire with windows 8 (that i HATE)

any help appreciated, is it something in the registry? HELP. this is driving me nutso and actually costing me money

Hey Norf. You've probably tried this already, but have you gone into the computers settings, and set your mouse or whatever you use to function in the way you want it to..i.e. 1 click to open everything, files, browers, etc.. reading this mate, this is the only thing that comes to mind..

Yeah it's a new PC and that's happening? Could be a number of things:
    1. Faulty motherboard
    2. Faulty USB slot
    3. But it's a laptop, then again a lot of people use detachable mouses with their laptops.
    4. Also, common mistake a lot of people do when using a mouse on a laptop. Don't rest all your fingers on the mousepad area. Or it won't register correctly.
    5. Whenever you delete something off of your computer it is never truly deleted from the registry. So technically whatever spotify did/has done could have only like you said been temporarily removed. A lot of programs like to make backups of themselves.

to get #5 sorted you'd want to take the PC to a professional so he could plug it in and clear spotify and other **** from your registry. Like utorrent since it's illegal to steal music/movies etc anyway.

Fyi, around 1-2 years ago almost all major law enforcement around the world started working directly with ISPs to crackdown on people stealing stuff. good luck not getting caught. Personally I don't use utorrent anymore.

#6 It could just be that you leave your finger on the mousepad when you click... although it sounds ridiculous.. It could be the issue.

PC issues suck ***, but your best bet is to remove windows 8 (sarcasm). Honestly though take it to a professional. Or a hole in the wall kind of place so they won't care about your utorrent etc or report you to authorities. good luck

This has probably nothing to do with this, but once when I got erratic mouse behaviour the solution was simply to plug the mouse into another usb port

    Greetings,

    Some questions;

    1. Which browser are you using?
    2. Are you using a wireless mouse or the built-in pad?

morfy, thats not it thanks though

shart, im confident this issue should be able to be resolved without me taking the laptop to a costly professional. gotta say i dont think this is due to how im resting my fingers on the mouse or anything like that. it is clearly only happening when the focus is on any type of input box. like when i hit Submit after this post, its gonna happen as well.

mutetus, ive tried all usb ports.

Useless, im using an external mouse, a logitech one that worked flawlessly on my old computer. im using firefox. speaking of the touchpad, thats another slightly less worrying issue, but i CANNOT disable it. and i AM on the admin account. when i disable it, it says it is disabled and prompts to restart my computer for the change to take effect, but when it has done that, the touchpad remains intact. but ive now physically blocked the touchpad so its not that big of a problem anyway.

Did the problem exist before physically blocking the touchpad? Maybe something is in contact with it and is causing problems?

yeah the problem was there from day one. over the course of the two weeks that ive had the laptop, the problem has disappeared and reappeared twice or thrice, without me having done any changes. which leads me to believe it really isnt caused by spotify, utorrent or any other program. it could randomly disappear right now, only to reappear later.

its not a driver issue either as my control panel tells me i have the latest drivers.
