So it's almost over, with a few finals to go today :
-Men's Ice Hockey Final Sweden-Canada
-50 km cross country freestyle skiing
-Men's 4 bob run 3 and 4
Gotta say it was one of the most fun Winter Olympics so far, that I can remember, partly cause of the new added events, and very modern media coverage on web/apps/tv.
The Netherlands did pretty crazy on speed skating, 23 medals+1 shortrack, pretty monotonous as other countries may think but I still like it.
4 medal sweep podiums is also a first time on winter games.
I'd like to see more diverse medals in the future as well, especially snow sports. We had a few snowboard athletes but no medals
It's been the most succesful Winter games for us ever, Sydney 2000 summer games still has a better total medal count+more gold, so it's the second best overall Olympic record since 1900 onwards.
I've enjoyed other sports every day, even curling and ice dancing were fun, the finals at least, while I disliked them in previous years, opinions change over the years I suppose.
Next up, Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup, Netherlands-Spain in group B will be a great 1st match for that group.
Cant believe GB elise christie got DQed from all 3 of her events,
It was mental to see
The 3rd was nonsense
yeah, i was surprised by her DQ in the 1000. I figured she would get advanced when the chinese skater fell. The thing is right of way is given to the skater whose shoulders are in front going into the corner, and both skaters were dead even going in to that one. That means that Christie can't lean in as hard as she did on the chinese girl, which is why she got DQ'd. Brutally hard call to make, and tbh i don't know that I would have made it if I was ref (only qualified to be a track steward lol not a ref).
That's the thing about short track tho, **** goes wrong all the time. The Canadian team had a brutal string of falls, JR Celski has a rough meet (actually all the american skaters long and short track did), the Chinese girls were DQ'd out of silver in the relay for staying on the track too long (wut lol), you win some you lose some.
On the upside, Viktor An, formerly Ahn Hyun Soo of South Korea was unbelievable! Totally mind blowing how good this guy is. Demolished everyone in the 500 final even though he had the worst start I have ever seen. Great to see him doing so well in Russia after double knee surgery and being booted from the Korean team.
Also, Gil Junio for flag bearer!!!!
Anyone catch the snowboard cross and ski cross!!
Epic sport!!!
Watched the men's ski cross yesterday on a highlights show, a French 123it's kinds like watching SX but soo much more exciting!!
