Uh i dont know about what you outlined exactly, but something similiar is implemented in Team Fortress 2 and it is a very good thing.
You are NOT required to pay for maps, but you could Tip the map creator with microsoft points if you want. This incentivizes people to take the time to make quality maps for the community while potentially making a decent amount of money on the side if people feel you earned it. And if its not implemented on Consoles (because it is apparently a scary foreign concept to them) It should definitely be considered for the PC version using the TF2 Model or something similiar.
Its an interesting debate but I don't think it would work. Id probably support a donate function, there are a fair few creators I would be happy giving a few nuggets to for their quality tracks. But at the same time I really dislike the idea that some creators would be getting paid for releasing sub-standard tracks or if there would be an increase in some creators releasing slightly tweeked versions of tracks for more monies. If ... say .... Tweed head in his early days of releasing pretty much the same track every few hours was getting paid more than medieval genius would that be right? (not having a go a Tweed, just using as an example) I guess its down to Joe public if they want to spend money, and not me, but as the ratings system clearly highlights, Joe public is a moron.

That would be one less sale. Red Lynx would be ok without that $15.Originally Posted by xzamplez
Monetizing TC the right way would make them millions. You do the math.
Everyone would be free to make tracks and charge zero. I'm sure there would be plenty free great tracks. You can create tracks for the enjoyment. And for now, why else would you?
@Fernanjo: I agree with the donation idea and also how wrong it would be to watch bad creators get paid...but that never stopped KISS from making albums. The ol' "don't move" creators could make millions here...that just life though. Look at MTV. Are those top musicians? Mediocrity always rises to the top.
@Attila: You of all people would be laughing for sure. All the way to the bank brother.
The whole optional monetization may put off some, but attract other creators, maybe better ones. In 10 years, many more in game purchase will be the norm. Even dlc's over the years have gone from 1 or 2, to full season passes for $50.
All being said in this post, if they started monetizing on their own and creators were getting even a few hundred a week (not much, but something) everyone would be singing a different tune, trust me. Especially, Barryboy![]()
No, he's not. And I have removed the insulting posts. I wish people would use the report function instead of the back and forth with insults.Originally Posted by VEGASTRASH
Vegas, thanks for the suggestion. I, for one, feel that free UGC is the heart of Trials' longevity, which is why a lot of the guys here will also release quite a few tracks under their own accounts.
