Ok so I was playing around with this idea for a track I was gonna build. I messaged a few guys to ask if it was possible. I'v been thinking about it for some time hoping to complete it myself without anyone else knowing about it. I can't so here goes:
A constantly moving platform such as a conveyor belt. It was gonna be on a dumpsite but I suppose there could be different ones, car production line etc.
The player stays within the same spot of roughly 5 meters and must clear obstacles of varying difficulty as the belt moves along. If he goes too far forwards he fails and same if he is too slow.
The problems I had was trying to put moving checkpoints in. The very long glued conveyor with obstacles lagged extremely and how it was scored eg distance or a normal trials game with finish line.
I thought it was a good idea but I can't do it. If anyone else wants to try, go ahead!
Could you cheat and make the room move, and not the conveyor? This way checkpoints would still work, and the effect would be the same, but instead of having to worry about the checkpoints, you would only need to worry about making sure everything reset to the correct checkpoint.
Wow what a great idea! You would have to somehow attach the rider to the whole background somehow with a joint maybe which moved closer towards you at a slow pace. Nice one!
Not sure if it's doable though.
I'm not sure if i'm understanding it right but why should the checkpoint have to move if the idea is to stay in a place? You can just respawn at the same cp and just reposition the objects/platform based on triggers you hit after obstacles (basically the idea of a cp trigger)
There is a single player track with a similar line that does that but you need to be able to have checkpoints moving also and you need to have reset in checkpoint off also to keep the position when you keep riding. But it is possible with the retargeter I would of thought.
Had exactly the same idea quite a while ago but never bothered trying it. Got it from the beginning of Scrapyard + being lazy and trying to come up with an idea involving little scenery![]()
The way I had it planned was a skill game, removing the checkpoint problems. Just a big square room with the belt bringing obstacles in - but with a suspended, fixed platform raised just above the conveyor, which the bike would land back on after taking each section - every obstacle completed = 1 point, most points tops the leaderboard.
Would be simple doing it that way if you could avoid lag - maybe recycle the belt pieces as they leave the room, automatically putting back to the beginning so theres a lot less "on screen".
I don't know if alot of glued groups would lag it alot, but you can also try recycling parts(glue groups) by just letting them spawn in a different position/orientation. so its not always the wall with the pipes at the same placeOriginally Posted by WILLYUMZ
Didn't someone build a skill game like this??? I think Urkizo23 built a quick skill game with the same idea...he built the grappling hook skill game for RL..
Sounds interesting![]()
I'm sure Dr4gOnSfuRy built a track like this.![]()
