Maybe, maybe not. Ken Lobb, who worked on the original KI games and also this new one, states that they'd repeat the process again with season 2. This means potentially 8 more characters/ stages and even more modes. If they keep the pricing model the same, then you could spend $40 for 16 characters and a ton of modes over the course of a couple of years. Sounds like a bargain to me.Originally Posted by jook13
I see this as a win/ win situation. If you'd rather wait until the game is more complete, then you have that option. If you want to get into the game early to learn the fighting mechanics and appreciate some content early, you also have that option. Microsoft really wanted KI as a launch title, which is why you see this "rolling launch". Double Helix only worked on the game for a year and they've accomplished a TON. They built a whole new engine on new hardware. The fact that they have 6 completely polished and balanced characters given the time frame is quite a feat. I think this game has a much better combo system than the older games and as a result, is much more fun to play competitively. It is easily my most-played next gen title.Originally Posted by apdenton1
No, you cant look at it like that. They are basically releasing a beta that you have to pay for. You are testers (employees) but you have to pay for the privelage to do so. They released an incomplete game and if this game is successful it will only get worse from here on out. I wish people wouldnt support this type of thing...Originally Posted by KaliniuS
I followed the development of this game very closely and know for a fact that DH did their best to bring everyone balanced and solid core game. I wouldn't call it a "beta" but more of a limited release. The game plays better than any other fighting game I've ever played, and that's saying a lot. Even if they didn't release more content, I feel that $20 is an incredibly fair price. It's not like they rushed a game with buggy code and constantly need to patch it up. I understand where you're coming from but it doesn't feel like I'm playing a beta. It feels like a solid platform that they'll continue to build on for a while.Originally Posted by jook13
Besides, nobody's forcing anyone to pay for it. There's a free version which includes one character. You could play that and decide if you like it enough to pay for more content.
All that matters is you are happy with it I guess.
I still see the whole industry heading in a downward spyrol of rushing out products and patching them later, along with more and more greedy and shady practices. This particular game may have handled it pretty well, but I assure you that if this type of thing becomes the norm many games will not handle it with as much care. So I am glad you are happy with it, but for me its yet another business model I cannot support out of principle... I am starting to sound as jaded and apdenton aren't I?
To each their ownI can see this business model being abused and I would definitely not support any game that uses it poorly. For your viewing pleasure, here are a couple of my recent matches:

from what i can tell and heard(i didn't play the game myself) the game works solid and bugfree, they could have released it without telling they were gonna add stuff and it would have been fine, because the game costs less 20bucks is less than the normal 65 or so, you can always play the demo and decide if its fun enough already and else you just waitOriginally Posted by jook13
the static games you seem to want have a big disadvantage, the devs might have made the game they imagined after a few years of hard work and the game is great and works great, now they played the game during deveopment and thought this mechanism is fairly basic wouldn't it be great if we did this or that too it, and everybody thinks that would be awesome
but they have to think: do we hav the time, the money, do we want to delay the game for it, what about these other features that would also be great
in general most of this stuff would have to wait till the next game
another advantage of this model is that the devs can start making money already for the stuff they made
now what i don't like is early acces or preorders, i will only pay for things it already has and what works bugfree, i don't pay for promises
My highest combo so far in ranked matches is 109 hits:

Wow, that was awesome to watch!Originally Posted by KaliniuSIf I had an Xbox One and playing this game at home, my family probably would scare/freak out of that voice!
