FYI: bought it at HH Gregg

I only buy warranties for really expensive electronics, not for games and misc stuff.

yeah, me too..Anything thats a costly affair, then get a warranty...common sense really..

Years a go my Xbox 360 got the RROD before it really became a problem, mum paid the £90 to get it fixed, then when it became a real issue they contacted us and refunded the repair cost.

You won't need warranty is what I am saying

OMG, seriously? EVERYTHING has an acceptable failure rate. Given that its LESS than 0.4% of all shipped consoles that have issues at this stage, its not even news.

A Sony representative has provided the following statement to IGN:

"A handful of people have reported issues with their PlayStation 4 systems. This is within our expectations for a new product introduction, and the vast majority of PS4 feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. We are closely monitoring for additional reports, but we think these are isolated incidents and are on track for a great launch.

There have been several problems reported, which leads us to believe there isn’t a singular problem that could impact a broader percentage of systems. The number of affected systems represents less than .04% of shipped units to date, which is within our expectations for a new product introduction."

Yes it is news, its about 8 hours until most people get the console, and there have been numerous complaints about the same issue.

Too early to say either way. Wait until June next year before we go into this topic.

We'll know the real fail rates once people get theirs and use it for several hours/days.
Still, this doesn't go in sony's favour and will surely impact negatively on sales.
Also, i'm sure it's nothing but this gif from the giant bomb unboxing made me laugh a bit.

Elitist? What on earth has that got to do with anything?

The fact is the XB1 will probably have similar failure rates, and Ipads, and Iphones and laptops and cars and microwaves and anything else manufactured. NOONE achieves 100% success in their manufacturing proces. So as its around 0.4% its nothing. There's just a kneejerk overreaction to the news that as should be expected, there is a failure rate. Its actually GOOD news, if the failure rate is only 0.4%, many people would expect a higher failure rate from a manufacturing process. I hope the XB1 failure rate is 0.4%. I want both consoles and am entirely happy if they have managed to get that rate as low as 0.4%.

Its all opinions and conjecture at this point anyway as there are very few retail consoles out there and some of the failures are on pre-launch consoles anyway. So until more time has passed, there's no knowing if 0.4% will be seen as high or low compared to the final statistics.

But whatever, I've had my say and explained my point of view. Its nothing against you Euan, just explaining why I think 0.4% isnt newsworthy.
