I typically don't mind Eminem. He's technical and occasionally funny. MMLP is a modern classic that a lot of people grew up with. The songs I've heard off of this album however, suck.
WHO IN THE WORLD told him that singing choruses is a good idea? I also think I remember hearing an electric guitar, my number one pet peeve with modern hip-hop. No, it's not edgy and fresh. They simply don't mix. I'll stick with old hip-hop.
To me Eminem gives white hip-hop a bad name. There are a lot of seriously talented white rappers with very inteligent lyrics and dynamic range. I'd point to Atmosphere (Slug), Sage Francis, Brother Ali, or even nerd rappers like MC Chris and MC Frontalot as great examples of "good" hip-hop from white guys. To me Em's whole thing comes off as an act while there are so many rappers of any race or gender who are doing something that feels much more honest.
To me Em fits right in with all the other crap rap you would here on the radio.Originally Posted by NorfaiR

This was basically my introduction to hip hop as an impressionable young kid, like it was for many middle class white guys my ageOriginally Posted by vladiiiiiiii![]()

i have all his albums as for his new one he seems to have went a different way im not sure about some of the tracks
i will need a few more listens to them but rap god is awesome especially when he does super sonic speed![]()
I wouldn't go that far. He does have a decent variation of tracks too. That album he did, the one that got him famous? That was disgusting. It's his non-commercial stuff that I can enjoy, well, some of it. Superman I thought was great considering it was all about "Ho's" and arrogant as ****Originally Posted by CannibalShogun![]()
He's got talent, and destroys other "talent" on the radio with some tracks but he is probably overshadowing smarter and plain better rappers (white or black), yes, just not as much as Lil' Wayne or MTV star x is.
Akala is one that to overlook is criminal:

This is what most of the 90's kids in Finland growing up thought Hip Hop was all about. So I think everyone who had to possibility to listen to proper Hip Hop back in the day when we really started to learn about different music genres should be happy.

I'll agree with you there denton, I don't listen to hip-hop/rap anymore but Akala is fierce.Originally Posted by apdenton1
I rate Eminem, he is one of the few big name rappers that has real lyrical ability imo. His non-chart releases are always thoughtfully crafted and meaningful - and while he has gone more mainstream over the years with cheesy pop vocals all over his tracks and collaborating with Nicki Minaj (who is a disgrace to the genre) etc, hes still very much one of the best as far as I'm concerned.
Basically they are singing about two things 1. the other guy met a woman and he fell in love with her and the other guy smaked some sense into him so world doesnt lose another bachelor. Also they are saying how ugly the girl was. 2. they are singing how the chorus is going to come after the verse and after chorus they are saying "ok now is the time for the verse".Originally Posted by apdenton1
I missed that when I was a kid because I started to listen to metal before I was 10.
When I really got into Finnish Hip Hop it was this dude.
First guy IMO that makes lyrics that don't make you fell all awkward when you listen. Finnish is one of those languages that sounds really embarassing and awkward if you don't know how to use it. When you hear a guy rapping that doesn't know how our language works it's like watching Borat.
