Went on a trip! (Xbox One info)

    Hey guys,

I got a job as an Xbox One rep for Manitoba, which sounds way cooler than it is. Pretty much my partner and I go to all the electronic stores and advertise for it or something. Not too sure actually. I fly to Canadian Microsoft HQ today and will get to try the new Xbox/do training tmrw. Should be neat!

    Edit:

Trip was awesome! It was my first time flying by myself so it was a little nerve racking, but it all went smoothly. Got to meet a lot of like minded people from across Canada and have some good conversations.

As far as training went we had about 4 hours learning about the new features in the Xbox One and about 4 hours learning how we should deal with customers etc.

Some of the things we learned (maybe specific to North America, I really don't know):

    Hardware

Firstly, the Xbox does not need to be connected to the internet at all times as we know, BUT it MUST be connected to internet to do initial set up or else it will NOT function.

The specs of the console are already known and are essentially meaningless to only somewhat computer savvy me, so I won't bother posting them.

The controller ($60) is pretty dang cool though. The sticks are a little smaller. The Dpad is more recessed. Still runs 2 AA batteries but the battery pack is flush with the back of the controller. The triggers now have rumble packs INSIDE of them. So apparently guns will feel different to shoot and accelerating and braking over different surfaces will provide different feedback. They no longer offer a wireless controller but the new Play and Charge Kit ($25) comes with a 9 foot cable and when it is plugged in the controller acts as a wired controller. I believe it has a micro USB end? Sounds right. Also has IR sensor for functionality with Kinect.

The headset is just a normal headset really. The volume and mute controls are now on the piece that plugs into the controller instead of on the wire. If you have a third party awesome kick-*** headset for 360 there will most likely be an adapter for the Xbox One.

Kinect is actually cool. Like no really, it is pretty cool. If it works as intended anyways, but still awesome. Let me explain.
-only needs 4 feet of space (down from 6-8)
    -much wider field of view
-uses IR camera to see you in the dark or in any poorly lit room
    -4 mic array
-not motorized anymore (not sure if good thing or bad thing)

But now for the really cool stuff. It knows your face and voice and with the IR sensor on the controller it knows you are playing. But say I am playing Titanfall and my sister comes home and wants to play. She takes the controller from me and sits down. Kinect will realize this, sign her into her profile including changing to her preferred button layout. Then say after awhile I want to play with her. I can pick up another controller which logs me into my profile. We then start playing split screen, but the Kinect knows where we are sitting and will always put our screen on our side. Neat stuff.

Also it can track up to 6 people at once. And since it knows your voice you can't have idiot friends telling your Kinect to shut off your Xbox.

What is kind of weird is that for fitness games Kinect can tell your heart rate just by looking at you, and your body temperature. So if you are doing a workout it actually knows how hard you are trying.

    Home Gold

You are able to pay for gold on one account, and then all the other accounts on that specific Xbox will have access to Gold features. The person on their main account can recover onto another Xbox and have Gold features, but the other silver accounts will not have Gold features when recovered onto a different Xbox.

It was said that you could change what Xbox is designated as the home Xbox, but it is probably limited in some way or else it could be abused pretty easily. We were also told that there can be unlimited silver accounts linked to Home Gold. So essentially until your HDD is full of profiles I suppose.

    Snap

Snap is a really cool feature. I am pretty sure it is similar to Windows 8. It allows you to "Snap" a different application to the side of the screen while you doing something else. Which is really cool when combined with having your cable/satellite TV pass through your Xbox.

    For example:
Watch football while having your fantasy football app open on the side.
Play games while Skyping with up to 4 of your friends. (But apparently Snap with Skype is not available till post launch sometime.)

    Blu-ray

Finally. Just don't use it on it's side. Horizontal only.

    Smartglass

I see this as pointless. Essentially using your phone or tablet as a second controller. The only cool thing I saw was that with Dead Rising 3 you can make it so the game literally calls you to give you missions.

And I know it can be used for HUD stuff like maps or whatever. But I think it is silly to have to look at a different screen for that.

    Voice Controls and Multitasking

You can tell your Kinect to change inputs. Which will probably save a couple button presses (time is money people.) But whatI thought was cool was that when you are waiting for a lobby to find players you can tell your Xbox to switch to TV or Internet Explorer or anything else, and you will get a notification when your match is loaded.

    Random

    -300 000 dedicated servers
-a matchmaking system that apparently finds people your skill level (heard that before)
-a rep system that actually makes a difference in what kind of people you get matched with (heard that before too)
-can still message and chat with people on your friends list who are only on 360

So that is pretty much it. Seems like it should be pretty cool. I might actually leave my Kinect on if it works as they say it does. Looking forward to my job anyways. Be nice to have some money.

Oh and I can contact people at Microsoft to ask questions, so you guys can ask things on here and I will try to get you an answer.

    Can you disable Kinect?
Can you use the apps without Kinect?
Can you disable the voice-input or motion-input?
I don't hate connect but maybe I don't want to carry it with me when I go game somewhere else.

Can you keep your profile on a USB stick and simply log-in on another box or will you require your email and password? That basically makes bringing it pointless as it's the same procedure as Recovering from Live.

Do disc-games require a 1-time activation through the net after you buy them, either right away or within 24 hours?
Can I run a disc-game on another Xbox without needing any internet connection or copying my profile?

Custom themes or wallpapers? The new interface looks too loaded with crap to see the dashboard.

If it cannot play disc games from 360, how about Arcade or Indie? Will I have to re-purchase Trials Evo or will it simply be not supported?

    Indie games?

    Avatars?

Will they discontinue Xbox Live for the 360 as they did with the first one?

Will the video-input for TV scramble the image if it detects a Playstation or other console streaming into it?

Can I use Skype to broadcast the screen as PC's do with 'Share Screens'?

Looking for more definite answers than the ones fed to 'reviewers'.

You never have to plug kinect in. Ever.

They said the discs will be exactly as they are now. So no activation required. I assume an install will be, however. Like PS3, since bluray read speed is apparently slow.

No 360 game compatibility at all. There's rumored to be some sort of cloud streaming thing in the future for X1.

Since XBL Gold will work on both consoles, and they can communicate with one another, and M$ plans to support 360 for another 3 years (game-wise at least), I assume Gold will still be on 360 for at least that much longer.
