Yeah, the Windows/Super/Logo key even serves as the Guide button.

That is complete nonsense. I play some of the most complex PC games out there with an Xbox360 pad just fine. Ok Ok I miss on on hotkeys, but they are just shortcuts....ok ok, there are other minor problems for some games, but it's nothing that modding cannot fix or are so minor it's just not an issue.
You can also control a cursor with the stick just fine, fast and fluid. heck there are loads of console games that have a controllable cursor for some task or other. Sims, Age of Empires & Doom 3 to name a few.

Console pads can do what M+K can do, just held back a bit. A little less precise and lacking in buttons. I was hoping this gen of consoles would have more precise sticks/other method and more buttons, that way they could have the benefit of PC control and console comfort, but I do not think this steam pad is the answer, at least not this first model shown. We shall see.
didn't expect this from you but i disaggree on some parts
while indeed cursors work decently in some console games like fps or evo's editor etc, above mentioned genres have never realy been on console besides ruse for rts wich worked decently(don't remember much of it so should replay it)not sure about aoe because i never played it with a controller

i tried to make faster than light(game can be perfectly played with 3 buttons and a cursor) in evo, first a straight copy replacing a stick with the mouse and it just didn't work good enough to be functional
now i completly overhauled the way it works and looks and i see something playable now, it still has cursors but now they don't need to be so precise and to be used so often
it doesn't look like it anymore and gameplay is rebalanced, it became more of a console interpretation of the game within evo's limit

its far from done though and is currently on a hold till i feel like building again

    Yeah I'm officially intrigued,
Though I'm comfortable with my analogs,
I see how this could be good

It would atleast make it to where analogs don't ware over time and thumbs cant slip off them and cause user error.
Not saying I'm definately getting one, But I am skeptical

One example: Here is the showcase for my Deus Ex mod: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuNGjpJ6zRA

All controlled with an Xbox360 pad, the inventory sorting etc. The only thing not possible as it stands is typing user name and passwords but there could be a virtual keyboard as in Deus Ex: Human Revolution on consoles instead.
Granted, FTL probably does need maximum precision of the mouse though.

I'm stoked. Valve isn't messing around, this isn't a "let's hope it works" idea.

They seem to be the ultimate "for gamers, by gamers" company.

Pretty sure I'm going to have one of these shortly after they release.

I'd like to know if you can have buttons mapped to the pads AND still use them as 'sticks'.
