"They can have buttons mapped to different areas on them"
I read the OP, how the hell did I miss this!? Great. Will be keeping an eye on this now.

would be great if it can replace the 360controller because i dislike the sticks
this would be awesome if trueWhole genres of games that were previously only playable with a keyboard and mouse are now accessible from the sofa. RTS games. Casual, cursor-driven games. Strategy games. 4x space exploration games
it probably can't replace keyboard + mouse, nothing will replace the mouse till some eye tracking gets integrated that would make the mouse pointless
i hope this controller is atleast semi competent at mimicing the mouse so we can play stuff like rts and mouse driven games with something comfortable
This controller looks like an over-sized game pad.
Looks horrible for me. The A,B,X,Y button placements are uncomfortable, and there is NO d-pad and it doesn't seem like there are bumpers on the top.
I guess this will be very hard to play trials. Why can't we stay on Keyboard & Mouse for Steam & FPS/3PS games?

Looks mighty interesting. Not sure how accurate you could be with the movement or if the track pads get slippy when you sweat etc. Would have to use one to find out but it looks to have potential.
Because, for a lot of users, using a keyboard and mouse from the couch is difficult. With the push of SteamOS and SteamBox being mostly targeted to the living room, it makes sense to develop a Steam controller.Originally Posted by Blastergamer
Also, keyboard and mouse won't be going anywhere.
That is complete nonsense. I play some of the most complex PC games out there with an Xbox360 pad just fine. Ok Ok I miss on on hotkeys, but they are just shortcuts....ok ok, there are other minor problems for some games, but it's nothing that modding cannot fix or are so minor it's just not an issue.Whole genres of games that were previously only playable with a keyboard and mouse are now accessible from the sofa. You can also control a cursor with the stick just fine, fast and fluid. heck there are loads of console games that have a controllable cursor for some task or other. Sims, Age of Empires & Doom 3 to name a few.
Console pads can do what M+K can do, just held back a bit. A little less precise and lacking in buttons. I was hoping this gen of consoles would have more precise sticks/other method and more buttons, that way they could have the benefit of PC control and console comfort, but I do not think this steam pad is the answer, at least not this first model shown. We shall see.
I'm still hoping that they will have kb&m support in some games. The fact that my USB keyboard works perfectly when composing a message on an Xbox 360, but won't work for many other things, was something that perplexed me.Originally Posted by apdenton1
