Re: Free to play and time limited - shame on you!

How did I find my way in here? I'm in a Physical Geology class while thinking about my future with trials.

Removing the ability to play unlimited? Bad choice. Nothing good can come from outright removing positive features. Nothing.

Sure, Free-to-play is nice if you have to kill some [short amount of] time before fusion. But that should be an addition, not a replacement. The option to play an initiating fee and play without limits should have remained, because there are people who can dedicate themselves to each option. Launching with F2P only grants the loss of the customers who have the common sense to realize they'll chip in much more on the long-run than they should have. The "less is more" policy only applies to Charmin Ultra toilet paper and certain paper towel brands, not to versatility of the gaming market.

I guess there's no harm in downloading and playing it. But it'll just be another scrap game, rather than one with meaning and longevity (unless you "pay $.25 to continue!"). Modernization strikes again.

    Edit: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...s-Get-You-Down

To help gain an insight about what the problem and solution is

(Just to note: I'm not completely bummed about it, considering Trials Fusion; but better things can come of this)

    Edit2: Meh, 9 day bump

There are so many cases of people going overboard on micro-transactions within a free product without realising because it's a sneaky way to conduct business. It's exploitative (on a sub-conscious level) of consumers and their addictive personalities as humans.

To reiterate Jook, I'm happy to pay (even an above average price), just not in this way where you can't keep track of what you spend. This is especially important with a game such as Trials. I know this is just business but, to me, this method of providing an "in demand product" is very shady and scrupulous.
Very well said. My interest in Frontiers is all but gone now

Re: Free to play and time limited - shame on you!

I am not a fan of F2P games. I don't like the shady monetization models and agree with many comments in this thread. However I am disappointed in how many negative comments there are from regulars on here making an assumption about what Redlynx have done without playing the game.

I have spent the last few hours playing the game and I feel that the F2P model will really work well for them. The main concern I saw in this thread was that you would have to pay to replay a track and that they were trying to get every dollar out of you each time you hit restart... that is not true. In fact, it seems that you can replay a track as many times as you like without having to pay a cent. If you want to race a track 100+ times to get a good place on the leaderboard.. go for it. You can!

There is a fuel system but in a few hours of gameplay I didn't run out. The fuel is used to allow you to start a new track and at the end of the track you get a special unlock, that is linked to the fuel so if you take the unlock (parts, diamonds etc) then that fuel is gone... replay the track for better times though.. go nuts.

The physics are amazing for mobile game, the environment and overall design are miles ahead of any other game i've seen.

Full credit to the RL team for this awesome game.

You all know I am a fanboy and of my relationship with the team, but trust me when I say that I am speaking as a fan of the series. this will get a lot more people interested in the game and as a community we should want that. I am having a blast playing this and can not see why so many of you have made the comments you have before getting an understanding of how this works.

Maybe in a week I'll hit a paywall, maybe the money grabbing becomes more obvious as you play... but its a fun game, really REALLY well made and as it costs you nothing, I don't know why you would want to avoid this game.

Feel free to ask me questions if you have any but please try and be respectful of the hard work the team put into this and reserve your comments for after you understand the monetisation model a little more.

I cannot claim to have any knowledge of this game yet which is why my comments were aimed at F2P in general and definitely not aimed at bashing RedLynx of whom I have the utmost respect for. I must admit that I was a little disappointed RedLynx (Ubi?) went down this route, I'm still very disappointed that we won't be able buy the game out right (maybe that option will be available on release?), but I also understand that they wish to make the game available to as many people as possible (and not just us regulars who would buy the game regardless) and as such, maybe making this a completely viable method of release. I just hope this doesn't limit how I can play without paying any money.

However, RedLynx or not, it doesn't change the fact that F2P is a horrible, scrupulous business model that has no love for it's consumers. I cannot change my opinion of it -even for RL!

This limitation of fuel is my worry and I hope it is like you say. The last thing I want to have happen is to not be able to play when I'm just getting into my groove. Maybe RL have designed it just right so that this never affects the players?

I wouldn't expect anything less from RL, they are truly hardworking and dedicated devs. The playability of their games is always spot on and they definitely know what makes a good, fun game.

Once again, thanks for the info Shady, and don't forget that we're all Trials fans here!

I would have to say that Shady you must be just outside the wall. I am totally low on fuel all the time now as some tracks cost 2 units instead of one. And many times you need to pay this multiple times because you didn't get the loot that you requireed from the loot wheel. Very frustrating. I would rather pay up to $20 for unlimited fuel.
