    Foliage foibles...

I'm building a trials track that is a mountainous, woodsy sort of theme. Mind you, there isn't a dense amount of trees, but I'm still getting lag in parts of the track from what few trees I've added. I don't think it's a tremendous problem, but it just pisses me off, since, as far as scenery goes, it's fairly minimalist. I have other tracks with stupid amounts of trees, with no lag. Also, I am NOT getting the "too many physics objects in the area" message.

Are there any tricks for getting trees to play nice?

Edit: I don't necessarily care if I should use certain trees over others, so long as its reasonable.

Grass loves to cause trouble too.

So I guess there's no insight on the tree situation? Just plop them down and hope for the best?

Have you tried creating your own trees out of logs & bricks for leaves?
Cruelty 976 & kalinius are masters of tree laying.

I'm aware of their methods, and have build alternates of my own, to no avail. Unfortunately, with my tracks style, I can't hide greenery in a blurred background, or over the cameras sight line. The trees I built were nice, I liked them better than whats in the game, but the extra objects caused lag as well.

I could be wrong, but ive encountered lag on some areas of the maps just by laying 2 spline points, maybe try a different area? Also terrain mods can cause problems. Im sorry if im not helping much, i can only talk from my experiences.

Hmmm. Most of my complexity is from terrain mods...I'm getting the overwhelming urge to throw my hands up and say **** it...

Edit:wait...no. I was getting lag just moments after starting the track from adding a couple trees. Must be the location. I can't try a different spot though. It was built to accommodate the lay of the land. It wouldn't be as good anywhere else.

I didnt think terrain mods cause that much complexity issues..could you not make the trees invisible up to the point they need to be visible?? Are you using the decoration only for all trees etc??? But yeah, grass, bushes etc do affect complexity, and tearing..

    Just a thought dude.

    Re: Foliage foibles...

The complexity isnt the issue. I just mentioned that because they are the most prominent thing on the track.

Ive tried deco only as well, nothing. The lag only occurs when is on screen, so I don't thing visibility tricks would work. Worth trying at this point I guess.
