Play what it is that YOU win at most often. Getting across the finish line 1st helps the most but as long as you 2nd/3rd in multiplayer, points add up and it's all about grinding it out by playing it alot. For your badge level number, because multiplayer global rank is a little different but somewhat simular.

Just keep playing, Naturally you will improve over time and the more you play the better you become.
You gain experience based on amount played aswell as positioning on each race

Play either Supercross, Trials or Hardcore Trials. Whichever is your favourite or which you are best at. If you are new to the game, play either supercross or trials. If you are a pro, play hardcore trials as 90% of people who play hardcore trials aren't very good and you can win quickly. There are 3 races in a game of trials. But only 2 races in a game of hardcore trials as well. Supercross there are 2 races with 2 heats each. They are all pretty similar for points, play whichever you enjoy the most. There isn't a simple answer for your question, if you make it more specific I can answer in more detail.
