I've already had enough of the poor combat system with this game to regret buying it. At this stage its so dated it feels really poor and outmoded. It seems like it would have been good in its heyday, but not at thi sstage tbh.![]()

Yup. I only payed $5 for it, so I didn't feel ripped off. But the crappy real-time/turn-based combat was annoying enough for me to put the difficulty on easy and not feel ashamed![]()
DA Inquisition looks pretty sweet though. Trailer made me think of Dark Souls with its apparent full character control and large boss. I just hope it really is like that.

Also just realised I was thinking about the PC version of this game, which I much prefer to the console version.
Personally wish more Pen and Paper style RPGs would make it to consoles. Last really fun one I remember that made it to console was Summoner on PS2. Had painfully long load times, shoddy frame rate, a pathetic clipping plane and LoD cut-off (amongst other technical sins), but remains some of the most fun I had on a console RPG last Gen due to it's fantastic gameplay and story.
Dated? Sigh. Dragon Age's combat is "poor" because that is how it was designed to be, nothing more. They could have designed it to be the most in-depth, thrilling, rewarding system of all time if they wanted to, the engine wasn't holding them back, all it takes is line after line of code. It's not the combat that pisses me off the most, it's the restrictive, bland level design with invisible walls everywhere, though you probably didn't notice the poor level design because that's what level design has become these days nine times out of ten.

Yeah pretty much what I meant. But like you said it's the rules that matter, I just prefer less i interactive hacking and slashing and whatnot. I thought Summoner had a nice balance with it's chain system.Originally Posted by apdenton1

Tempted to tear into that game but it IS tecnically a First Person Roleplaying Immersive Sim (albiet a weak one) so I'll drop it. It's still fun for a while, has a fair bit of depth, atmosphere is good, acrobatics skill is fun and shouldn't have been removed in Skyrim. It's a bit better than Skyrim.
Try Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. You'll probably be annoyed by the combat (It becomes the same as Oblivion after a while...a long while. Accuracy is based on skill) and the graphics may hurt your eyes a little (without mods. Hmm, you can get mods for combat too), oh, and no objective markers may hit you are if you are not used to older games (you are expected to navigate and complete objectives by more immersive and intellectually demanding means: descriptions, directions, compass, map, read books, magic and so on), other than that it's quite a fun, flawed game. It's the best Elder Scrolls imo, but they all suffer from similar flaws. Mostly copy n paste. Lots n lots of copy n paste. That said I haven't played Daggerfall so it's exempt, but I hear it has randomly generated dungeons or something so sounds like I'll be annoyed.
