I thought we'd beat you comfortably tbh. We've been looking really strong lately, coming off the back of 4 points from United and Arsenal with a solid defense and looking very dangerous going forward - just seemed a bit half-assed that game though, but to be fair we had a trouble against Stoke last season if I remember. Never really liked Hughes much but he's a decent manager.
Forgot about a fantasy team this year and I dont like to pick it up after the first few weeks but I'll make sure to remember for next season. I'd be looking at Hazard if I didnt already have him at this point, Townsend too.
I know Stoke aren't getting any results and I'd agree you are the better of the teams (at the mo..) but we never lose to you lot. That's why we sing "we always beat west brom" and the like.
You've had some good results recently though. Thing is, Stoke should have too! Should have beat man city and fulham but just lack that final touch. When will it change!!!!!!!!!!
@CagBall - I can only comment on Stoke when they faced us at the Cottage, you played some nice stuff but just had no killer instict, although you did deserve 2 penalties, and we should of had one - that said we are still playing badly ourselves, and were there for the taking for you and we got lucky with our goal, like most games this season, we are fortunate to have any wins so far. Also on the Hughes front, he is a hard character to like, and doesnt really endear himself, but with us he started really slowly until Christmas where we were playing badly and really open (in the bottom 3), but then believe it or not it all changed when we beat you away from home 2-0 when Chris Baird scored two screamers and we finished really strongly after that in 8th. That being said at QPR he was woeful and it never looked like he could recover any sort of form, so in essense, how he will turn out for you I dont know, but to be positive to you he normally works better with smaller budgets than splurging with cash, just gotta try to be patient and hope it works out and he finally finds what clicks for you.
Is a strange game, we (Fulham) beat Crystal Palace 4-1 away yet still played badly, no rhythm always passing back to the defence making no forward movement, and then that goal happened out of nowhere, and then didnt play great still and then Sidwell (who I dont rate as a starter) scored a sweetly hit volley. Second half we played a bit better got two early goals and then didnt bother to attack the rest of the game, is so frustrating, but a win's a win, plus the atmosphere was great there.
Crystal Palace on the other hand were shocking, didnt look like they were going to score at all, but I guess they always knew it was going to be a hard season for them, and planned ahead knowing this. Plus it didnt help their top scorer from last season Glenn Murray being injured and Zaha gone to sit on Man Utd's bench.
@WILLYUMS - that Arsenal goal was a work of art, the one touch football was sublime, nothing you can do about that. I dont think you can compare Wilshere's goal and Kasami's for goal of the season (not that you did), that being im sure there is gonna be even more amazing goals this season, as well as how different they are, and cannot be compared.
Therefore, I think for goal of the season they should seperate into 2 categories, the best team goal, and the best individual goal would be much fairer imo.
With Stoke, I'm very happy that we are passing more and playing with the ball a little bit better than under Pulis. I totally agree with you that we lacked the killer instinct and we still do to be honest. I'm hoping that in January a few new strikers will be coming in to work with the likes of Ireland (who I have always rated) and Arnautovic as well as this guy already confirmed (couldn't find a better video but he is a good striker. Skip to 1:10 for goals and ignore the dramatic music -I don't think he deserves that quite yet!.
As for the Stoke v Fulham game, I agree you weren't playing to the standard you're capable of as well as the match officials being awful, but in that game I saw a glimmer of hope for the new Stoke under Mark Hughes and it looked to have some potential (same as the Man City game). With Stoke Hughes was never going to hit the ground running but as the season progresses, I'm confident he'll be able to sort us out once he's brought in the right players.. at least I hope so. I'm also aware that there are two sides to the Mark Hughes managerial coin so there is that to worry about.
Crystal palace are screwed without Murray and Zaha. I can't believe Man Utd bought Zaha and don't play him, it's such a waste of talent.
I like your idea of two types of GOTS too. That would be so much better!
Another week, another inept display from Fulham, Jol still not seeing playing his favourites doesnt work, has no balance, no movement, no fight, no willingness to close down and put pressure off the ball, it is a complete shambles. Not to even have a shot on target is the final straw, or in fact any sort of meaningful chance at all, is that really too much to ask for - although we've been told by Jol to lessen out expectations, although im not sure how just hoping for a team performance and some sort of tactical gameplan is asking too much.
Barry, well done in advance for your easy victory next week against us, will be your easiest of the season, thats unless we somehow find another wonder goal from somewhere, or Jol has gone and we play our best team, rather than individuals.
Rant over.
