Re: Things that bug you in tracks

Collision problems. Sure, the source of the problem is the physics of the game, but it is absolutely imperative to prevent collision issues from happening on your track by thorough testing. I play tracks all the time that make me feel like the creator just ignored the collision problems. Some great tracks have been taken down a level because the creator overlooked/ignored the problem.

Any kind of lag seriously ruins a track.

    obvious things like accidental floating stuff and performance problems aside, these are the things that I dont like to see;

    - a line that is basic, shallow and has no thought behind it, and requires little effort to find it aswell. just ramps and jumps as jarrett would say
    - bland lighting, I have a real thing about good/bad lighting and it really makes a difference when you get it right/wrong
    - lack of effort. under-decorated, foreground ignored, acres of empty space, uninspired scenery and copypasted sections
    - anything that unfairly makes the track more difficult to ride; unnecessary camera changes, obstructive foreground, collisions that are even worse than 'normal' bad collisions etc
    - explosives that are there to add difficulty, its lazy imo and feels cheap most of the time
    - any kind of gimmick added to a regular trials track, it rarely ever improves anything
    - ninja obstacles, and these are probably just me, that have anything to do with large overhangs, mashing the x button and fender grabbing

I actually put these kind of jumps in my tracks on purpose sometimes.

It depends, i don't like it if i have a long big flat section before a ramp and i can overshoot the jump by simply weight shifting. When put in a technical track i don't mind it cause the whole track won't be based aronud 9 or 10 jumps like some beginner tracks.

    Also, other stuff:
    - Default light/fog settings. It takes about 5 seconds to change them.
    - Stuff not completely on the driving line.
    - Custom collision everywhere. CC's are nice for making one or two areas smoother, but if i'm not actually riding on the surface im seeing for the whole track can get a bit irritating sometimes.
    - Camera pointed at the rider's head and not at the camera target so it's all giggly wiggly whenever i bunnyhop.
I agree with vladiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii about the screenshots, the ones that bug me are those with the rider's face on it.

Can you...? Will you...? and tracks that have not real names, just some gimmick names, and also tracks that aren't cappitalized.

Lots of great responses guys! Maybe some novice builders will see this and get an idea of what not to do. Keep the responses coming!

I really hate when people make a ton of objects decoration only. Most of the time they end up forgetting some obstacles along the drive line. They may not be key obstacles in the track but if I can drive on them then I shouldn't be able to drive through them.

Plywood that hasn't been set to 'decoration only'.

    Inconsistent difficulty.

Random cars or boxes on the driveline.

Physics objects that dont work as intended.

Half assed tracks riddled with excuses as to why they werent better. Check out tracks from the top builders, you dont see that from them ever...none of this "my complexity bar was full so half the track is **** but I released it anyway" nonsense.

Bare sections with plain obstacles and no thought put into decoration.

Tracks with obvious screen tear that isnt rectified.

Just a few things that put me off of a track. Mainly things that arent down to sheer learning how to build, more down to cant be bothered to improve.
