When a drive fails, data corruption occurs. How did you "check the HDD"? What do you mean there "wasn't a scratch"? You know that the platters in the drive are magnetic, right? Have you tried formatting the drive? Sure, losing saved games and tracks will suck, but shelling out $100 for a new HDD would be salt in the wound.Originally Posted by Riot
This really sounds like a drive that failed. Mechanical drives fail. It sucks, but it's a way of life. This is why people are encouraged to perform backups on PC. Sadly, I don't think that there is a backup service.... Wait, there is. Every Gold Member has access to Cloud storage, it can be a pain to use, but it's a bigger pain to try to redownload all of your favorite tracks.
You can also use inexpensive USB drives (up to 32GB) for storage, assuming they meet MicroSoft's requirements, and keep physical backups of tracks as well.
By checking the HDD I meant I opened it up until I saw the disc-ish-looking thing.Originally Posted by ShiftySamurai

If I have another HDD failgot a 120GB one already), and I have stuff in the cloud, will it still be there if I get, say, a USB?
It is possible that the drive could have been used, even if it weren't used in an Xbox, by plugging it into a SATA port on a PC and running a check disc, or possibly formatting it. Did you try to reformat it , or did you just open it up?
Also, please promise me that you will never open a, possibly, good drive again. There are some things you can try before deciding that it is totally fried.
Anything stored on the cloud is, by definition, not dependent upon a local save. Saves stored to the cloud are accessible from any machine you are logged into from any location.
Well, I didn't damage anything on it, as the warranty was way past void a long time ago.
I just assumed something was broken in there.
Plus every time I put it in my Xbox it would Red Ring on me, and I don't have a SATA... port-thing... at least, I don't think I do.
My old HDD doesn't red-ring, it just doesn't show up as connected. But coincidentally it did happen to fail during Trials.. dun dun dunnnnn! But I understand that data doesn't last forever, sucks but just gotta keep going. Maybe the next iteration of your track will take less time or be smoother. Also to not, Any tracks that you've already uploaded to TC prior to the crash can be re-downloaded using the same profile and opened in the editor,, I DIDN'T KNOW THIS!
