    How do YOU build?

IM sure ive seen this topic before.. But couldn't find it
    anyway...

tracks are very subjective, who likes what, looks for what and expects what is massively different

however.. In order to get there we have to build...

    where to start?
    a theme?
build a DL and then theme around it?
base it just on an idea?

    where do you start?
and how do you realise your track to completion?

    lets discuss

    I 'll start

get an idea.. Build a theme

and then drastically try and create something around that
    IM a horribly messy builder
    ..i never plan in advance
and basically hope for the best with the space i give myself..

defiantly sure it is not the beat way for me to build
and i am trying a different tac for my next one.. But it makes me nervous

More people (from a poll taken on the forum) prefer a decent driving line.
    - So that is where I start. I use metal ramps for the good assortment of angles. Placing one, two, or three down and then test run that to get what the affect is. Placing next section in accord to the affect I want. Doing this for the rest of the track. Sweep the track for time and check point location. Make it longer or shorter or fit and finish. (driving line has a consistant feel with no one part being way harder, slower, or boring)
-Pick a theme. Finding a cool picture online or brainstorming about whatever sparks your fancy and see what happens.
-Build up and tearing down. The metal ramp pieces get taken down, but first something must take its place. Stick to the theme.

Cool.. you get the picture. test. until happy and check/invite test and release.

    Erm...

    I... uhm...

I get ideas from many games and real life locations.

If I get inspired to build a track because of a game, I'll play that game and look at the area I want to re-create, then go back to Evo and start building a riding line as I go along, making the scenery.

If it's a real life location, I use google images, while building the surrounding area in the game.

Right now I have a track with basically no line on it, but the architecture and detail is looking great.

I lay down some crap, then put some crap around it. Then I revise the crap out of it, and its crappier.

Make a line, improve on the line, put detail, finishing touches, done.

I normally draw out my drivelines on paper first. Then when I am editing I make any necessary changes.

I usually do the DL first and then the deco when I am done.

    Re: How do YOU build?

i always have a theme in mind first. It could be an image, or someone talking of something that makes me think of a scenario that i then place down the start point. If im doing a straight line, then after i find the best location, i put down a very long line.( i always take it much further, and just adjust the finish checkpoint.
If im doing curves, then i put the start point, then roughly place a few individual intermediate checkpoints before i go over it with spline points. If i use curves, i try to get them as sweet as possible, so the rider doesnt really know its a curve unless the decor gives the impression.
After this, i start putting a few items down, to start as i mean to go on.ill always put a few objects as the decor, then my obstacles, so to keep it all as one...then the rest i do slowly, but always decor and D.L. together in stages..
Google is always a great place for inspiration, and a pen and pad should always be handy for them flashes of ideas that can be forgotten easy.(due to my old git age)..

sorry if this is too much.

never have an idea . always put a few obstickles down .then try to hide were im riding with absolutely anything .just drop in a few pasted walls seed buildings anything .then i just experiment with pieces then at some point it looks like somthing and thats the theme . i also build differently than anyone i speak to as i build the entire track really messy/rough not lined up .then when its finished i go back and fix it up getting new ideas as i do. i cant build room to room checkpoint to checkpoint .i loose interest and get lost .
