How to add depth to a track?

Maybe a dumb question, maybe not. How do some creators make there tracks look like you can see the backround for miles while riding?

theres alot in this factor..location,theme,light, etc... if you stick to a good theme, then extend that theme as far back as possible, with the corrsect ambience, really makes a track look right..One rule i try to stick to, and that is, if any object looks like it doesnt belong there, then its not right..Try to make everything feel as if its a actual place..

Its all illusion. By having close and far sections there is a contrast through the track. So when you come out of a building say and can breifly see a long way, then have a closer section it makes it feel like the track goes for miles, when it doesnt. But if its all wide open it looks empty. If its all close it feels like a corridor. So contrasting distances can be really helpful in creating a closed in or expansive feel to a track.

working with the lighting settings can play a big part in this.Thats where i would start, cos like barry said, its all an illusion, and light is the best thing for creating illusions.

try building away from the drive line .buildings ect . if you can see over in the distance put something there .then make the track detail near to the line . then as you ride some sections are near and some are over in the distance . good lighting can help make depth . add fog . just experiment .try and make the track feel like an full environment where ever you look. even if it means putting detail in were you only see it for 1 second . it makes the track feel real .terrain mods for hills and trees can help in the distance .
