I'm itchin to try it out but it looks like a game that would require some time and dedication so I'm a bit hesitant to start it
Just wondering if it would be worth getting stuck into?

not tried it ozy but I think the campaign can take about 15 to 25 hrs

I think it's a decent and fairly underrated game. It's not overly difficult and if you like games like Hitman and Dishonored, then you will get some enjoyment out of Thief...I think. It's a game that people seem to have divided opinions about so take my PoV with a grain of salt. Try the first mission or two (shouldn't take you too long at all) and decide if you want to continue from there...that would be my advice.
