Its not about removing things. Nobody wants that. Its about making it easier to understand. Better explanations. A lot of the more complex things are complete jibberish to someone (like myself) without programming experience. Its a barrier to entry for far too many people. If the editor was easier to understand, there would be more quality and less junk on TC.Originally Posted by Agatio
I'm not saying that everything will or should be 100% understandable for everyone. That's impossible. Less programmer/advanced math speak, more layman speak. I don't know what the hell sin, cos, etc. is or how it will affect anything. Need better labeling and/or pictures.
The youtube tutorials and forum are great, but the basic-intermediate info needs to be within the game.
no programming class will ever explain what cos and sin are because they are some basic math functions that they consider to be known for those in the class,Originally Posted by MrGiggles
same for stuff like and, or,xor those are logic gate stuff, they aren't that important and can be skipped if you don't know them although these are less likely to be known
this stuff isn't programming related but finds its origin in math or electronics or so, so not really up to redlynx to explain those
for all help you can ask on the level editor part of the forum, lots of helpfull people there, just ask your questions there doesn't matter what, some might even be willing to help you over party chat or set up a stream to help you if needed
Yeah, like sparkierjonesz said, those things can't really be put into "layman speak" unless you know the underlying concepts already. I guess someone could make Youtube vids to teach some of these math concepts using the tools in the Trials editor, but that stuff is really outside the scope of what should be covered in any of the Redlynx tutorials.Originally Posted by MrGiggles
I always wanted to make YouTube tutorials, but I have no PVR, computer not near Console, PC too crap to play Trials Gold Edition. Only what I can do is win the Mutti competition with the PVR #1 prizeOriginally Posted by nannerdw, or waiting for Xbox One & Fusion to capture/stream it.
I started with no programmer knowledge and only gcse/highschool maths knowledge
but from studying the example tracks and more importantly the example objects.. Id like to think that ive managed to be come "ok" with the editor
im certainly not great with it.. But with some time and experimenting, as well as a healthy does of help from here .. I feel more and more confident that i can build better and better tracks
my wife thinks im nuts for testing stuff and spending hours building.. But when I finish a track im proud of it just makes the effort worthwhile
one day i will understand less basic functions, but it just takes time
I don't want to put you down or offend you but I went into Evo with zero programming knowledge and I was able to make many complex games such as Flow, Minesweeper, Simon Says, and hell even Monopoly! All I did was just use the tools. Made little games here and there. Each game gave me knowledge to make the next oneOriginally Posted by MrGiggles![]()
To understand the tools you have to just build. Experiment. Trial and error. If you get stuck there is the lovely level editor forum as spark has suggested where guys like me or him, dasraiser, apendton, etc are all willing to try and help anyone with anything we can. Literally I've never seen one question unanswered. Its pretty amazing!![]()
But even so. I would absolutely agree that even some basic tutorials using the tools would be great. Like mini videos to help show/explain. Even with the examples its still hard to grasp something I would agree, thats why I've made a bunch of video tutorials myself to help others like you that would need a visual representation to understand better what exactly is going on to make these tools work.
Hell theres still tools I'm completely clueless how they work, and some have been explained to me and still go over my head. My best advice is just try them out and see what you can come up with!
guys, im so sorry if this has been posted already, but theres aload to read to find out, so, i hope that the editor logic is the same as what we use now, and not a totally brand new one...But, i kind of get the feeling that it will HAVE to be different for the multi platform crack..Ah well, this time im jumping straight into the editor...
Just another minor thing, with the terrain tool, when making ramps from it, when you add another terrain ramp next to another, for it not to change the size of the first one.
Oh and im sure this has already been said, but for the complexity to be bigger cause I have a big idea (project) on what to do for Fusion if there is enough space, which i cant do on Evo.
Honestly its a sad reality that alot of people HATE mini games. We are few, but proud. Personally I get much more satisfaction out of making games than making another track.Originally Posted by MrGiggles
Even if they gave more in game info, still alot of people won't get it unless if they just start doing it. Some of the tools are just hard to explain. But they are mostly self explanatory.
What tools were you having trouble with in particular?
