A noobish question about the directional force effect

Okay, I know I'm probably missing something simple here...
I have a steam vent in a new track I am building, and I want to have it lift the bike/rider up to reach a higher obstacle. I tried tooling around with the directional force thingy and I can't get it to work.
I tried just placing it. (enabled) I linked a physics event to it with an area trigger. (disabled for the trigger to enable) I also tried the above with all three variations. (local, global, & triggered by object [bike])
    Please help!!!
Thanx in advance for any input!

Did you used a state event to activate the force?
    Otherwise, it wont turn on.

And additional, use an area affector instead of a directional force!

Hope it's that what you've meant!

directional forces need to be glued to something

you want to use an area affector her

I did also try glueing the directional force to a prime which would be hidden below the steam.
I'm off to tool around with the area effector.
    Thanx again!

Yep yep, the area effector works. I just need to adjust the settings to get the lift I need.
    Thanx again!!!
