Oh okay then, personally, I would make it outta something like rusty steel/ old-looking wood.
Pipe falling down or being knocked onto another pipe to give a nice "klank" sound rather than the usual check point beep. If you know how to let it give the player more depth and excitement by making the pipe fall in front of the camera top left just not in front of rider/bike. Might give a feeling like they are in danger better hurry the heck up and get outta here. Psych them out a little.

@HpvenomZ: Best thing you can do is just play around if you have no fresh ideas man! Half the time by messing around putting a load of objects together is can give out some cool looks, maybe even something like a animated lollipop lady? thats something new and at the same time something you would not expectand have the sign turn from red to green?
ive just been thinking about this topic after seeing what a friend had done on his track .his checkpoints look and blend into the track. the best ones ive seen were these hand built wooden ones that worked the same as the originals .im not sure but i think it was a vegas trash track .they were amazing . im experimenting today to see what i can come up with thats cool .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vz_s25YiLX0
what are the ways, actually, to mess with the checkpoints objects and furthermore: sound? I'm building a track where you make an early morning practice run on a competition-like course and I don't want any beeps.
