Yes, and people have no morale compasses anymore. Pirates do all sorts of mental gymnastics to rationalize theft, which is a crime.

Tbh, what they did was release a free, legit copy of the game and made it a timebomb. No one who donwloaded it was pirating, so... I do understand what they were going for with it though

actually 94% of the first day players pirated it

only difference is that they themself put the version out

It's not a pirated copy if the dev himself releases it.

eventually there would be a version there of the game wether the dev released it himself or nor

they didn't advertise that version in the public nor would honest consumers know about it, they just put it in the pirate network and that would have happend anyway
non of those players or normal consumers, they are all pirates and thieves

Still quite the harsh thing to say when no crime was committed by most.

look at what the devs say

    http://www.greenheartgames.com/blog/

Cracked version: at least 3104 users

Over 93.6% of players stole the game. We know this because our game contains some code to send anonymous-usage data to our server. Nothing unusual or harmful. Heaps of games/apps do this and we use it to better understand how the game is played. It’s absolutely anonymous and you are covered by our privacy policy. Anyway, the cracked version has a separate ID so I can separate the data. I’m sure some of the players have firewalls and some will play offline therefore the actual number of players for the cracked version is likely much higher.
see how they use the word stole

Of course they called it that. Doesn't still mean that downloading a version of the game that the devs put into circulation for free themselves is stealing. They'll post those numbers and call it whatever as long as it serves their two ultimate goals: making a statement about piracy ( this was poorly executed) and getting publicity for their game. This isn't much different from what was done with Hotline Miami.

Naturally, there will be working cracked versions of the gamy by now but that's a whole different story.

Apparently it was listed as a "cracked" version of the game. This means that players searched for a torrent of the game, downloaded it, played it, and eventually ran into the issue.

Please see the part where the users downloaded a version of the game that referred to itself as "cracked". You can look at it however you want, but if you go to buy some crack and it turns out that you were buying from a cop, that doesn't mean that it's legal or that no crime has been committed. Dude was still buying crack, just like these dude's still downloaded a version of the game that they THOUGHT was a fully working cracked version of a game that is available to purchase.

They fully intended to play the full game without paying for it.
