What is more important - Atmosphere or DL? | Forums

This is a question i've been not sure about for quite a while. I don't know what is the more important part of a track, or even if they're equally important... and if people prefer a track with a bad DL but good Atmosphere/decoration, or the other way round.
Personally I think they are equally important - I don't think a track is complete without both. So what do you think is more important?

i know lots of people couldn't care for visuals and will say DL all the way but personally for me a track is successful if it has both. In my opinion its the track's driving line which brings the fun factor and its the atmosphere or theme which makes it interesting also. You can have a fun line but with no theme or atmosphere i will loose interest very quickly regardless of how good the line is, or you could have a very interesting theme and atmosphere but with a crappy DL its just gonna be a cool track to look at for your 1st go but your not likely to play it much more. A solid DL to keep you enjoying it and a great theme and atmosphere to keep you interested is the key to a successful track

Well obviously having both is the way to go.. But he asked more important. In this case it has to be DL. I HATE when people put objects in positions that make them look more natural but they don't use custom collisions.. We can't all be loot monkey but its not that hard... So anyways DL for me

he also asks if they are equally important which is my answer, 1 without the other just wont have a great effect and is not a great track, like i said it could be the best DL in the world but with nothing to back it up in the background it has week legs to stand on and will not be very successful, my answer is they are EQUALLY important, people like DJ's tracks to me are the best type of track - a quality line backed up by a quality theme. but i knew poploe would be saying DL - this is just my opinion (and its the right 1 )

A good driving line makes me want to play the track a few more times to get a good run.
If the DL is bad, I will play it once and never look at it again.
I do think a track also needs a good background to be appealing to me.
But if I had to pick one - I would say that the DL is more important but not by much.

It's different with ninjas... No denying that. Look at sub studio... ZERO deco but still really consistent ratings.

I think a good track has both a good DL and good background. However, if I had to choose one over the other, I would pick DL. Without a fun DL, I don't care how sweet the background is, I won't enjoy playing it. This isn't to say that I dint think that background is important, I just think that DL is what makes me replay a track more than once. But the best is to have a great DL and great background.

I'd rather play a great DL with no decoration than play a terrible DL with great decoration.

It looks like DLs are a more important factor to most people - i'd have to agree, because even if a track has 0 detail/atmosphere, if it has a good DL, i'd play it through a few times.
Intrested to see if anyone goes for atmosphere/deco on the poll.

i would say both with an edge for the driveline

in general you pay so little attention to the background you don't notice alot of the special stuff
but you need a minimum amount of grafics and theme to get peoples attenion so they wanna play it and keep playing it

i don't think many poeple here play the no deco tc tracks by builders they don't know even though they could have a great drive line
